Job Summary:

The Director, Manufacturing Finance is a strategic finance leader responsible for partnering with manufacturing, supply chain, and operations leadership to drive financial performance, cost excellence, and operational scalability across a life science tools organization. This role provides financial leadership across manufacturing sites, including planning, cost accounting, inventory management, capital investment, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The position is highly visible and plays a critical role in supporting growth, margin expansion, and operational efficiency in a regulated, global manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary finance business partner to Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Operations leadership.
  • Provide actionable insights to optimize production efficiency, capacity utilization, and cost structure.
  • Support decision-making on product mix, sourcing strategies, and make vs. buy analyses.
  • Partner with site leaders to drive accountability for financial results and KPIs.
  • Provide forward-looking insights on cost trends, throughput constraints, and margin performance.
  • Translate operational metrics into financial outcomes for executive leadership.
  • annual operating plan (AOP), quarterly forecasts, and long-range planning for manufacturing operations.
  • Develop variance analysis on key drivers including volume, yield, labor, overhead, and scrap

Cost Accounting & Inventory Management
  • Oversee standard costing processes across manufacturing sites, including cost roll-ups and updates.
  • Ensure accurate product costing, BOM integrity, and routing assumptions.
  • Monitor and analyze manufacturing variances (labor, material, overhead, absorption).
  • Drive inventory optimization, including turns, obsolescence, and excess & slow-moving inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP for inventory valuation and cost capitalization.

Capital Investment & ROI Analysis
  • Partner with operations to evaluate capital expenditures (CapEx) including new equipment, automation, and facility expansion.
  • Develop business cases, ROI models, and post-investment reviews.
  • Ensure alignment of capital allocation with strategic growth priorities.

Systems, Processes, and Controls
  • Support ERP (e.g., SAP S/4HANA) implementation and optimization, particularly in manufacturing and cost accounting modules.
  • Strengthen financial processes and internal controls related to inventory, costing, and manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure audit readiness and compliance with SOX and regulatory requirements.

Experience Requirements:
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing finance, including variances, absorption costing, and operational KPIs.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP S/4HANA strongly preferred).
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills, experience with artificial intelligence enabled tools.
  • Experience supporting multi-site, global manufacturing operations.
  • Strong business partner with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels.
  • Excellent communication skills with experience presenting to executive leadership.
  • Results-oriented with a focus on continuous improvement and accountability
  • 10-15+ years of progressive finance experience, including significant exposure to manufacturing environments.
  • Prior experience in life sciences, medical devices, biotech, or highly regulated industries strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cost accounting, standard costing, and inventory management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA and/or CPA preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Walking & Standing: The ability to walk across large, multi-building manufacturing campuses and stand for extended periods during facility tours or physical inventory counts.
  • Navigating Hazards: The agility to navigate production lines, climb stairs or catwalks, and step over equipment or cables safely.
  • Sensory Acuity: Normal visual acuity (with or without correction) to review production processes and read gauges/equipment readouts.
  • Lifting: The ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Hearing & Communication: The ability to communicate in noisy factory environments and properly hear safety alarms or verbal instructions.

Work Location: 4 days in office, 1 day remote, work schedule, onsite in our Waltham, MA

Targeted Salary Range: $220,000-$260,000/yr
