Full Job Description
Position Overview:

Ashton Woods Homes is in search of a Director/ Manager of Finance to work with the Vice President of Finance on supporting the division operations and providing financial information and analysis for the annual plan and quarterly forecasts, as well as monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc reporting. This position will have responsibility for both the Ashton Woods and Starlight divisions. This is intended to be a developmental role into higher level positions, allowing us to grow finance leaders internally.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of annual financial plans, proformas, budgets, and other financial projections.
  • Review monthly financial statements, account summaries and reports.
  • Partner with Centralized Accounting and Division Function heads for month-end processes.
  • Manage the lot takedown process including ordering wires.
  • Reconcile and process monthly option payments for land bankers.
  • Prepare and assist with meeting for land budgets, indirect expenses, land allocation costs, VPO and construction variance.
  • Assist with land development budgets and perform quarterly land transfer analysis.
  • Manage indirect construction budgets and perform quarterly analysis.
  • Partner with real estate tax companies on reconciliation and payment.
  • Control costs by analyzing budgets and actual results, establishing procedures and implementing corrective action as required.
  • Perform continuous improvement of financial processes and make recommendations for reducing time and improving efficiency in many areas of the business.
  • Perform value-added and other ad-hoc analysis and provide decision support for special projects and initiatives across the business.
  • Safeguard the Company's assets in accordance with Corporate and Division policy and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related fields.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in accounting/finance; direct experience in homebuilding is highly preferred.
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA designation preferred.
  • Experience performing financial planning, budgeting and analysis.
  • Experience with Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and ability to learn new programs.
  • Ability to partner cross-functionally and influence operational leadership.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in stressful situations.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide actionable financial insights that drive operation and strategic decisions.
  • High degree of professionalism; ability to communicate with confidence.
  • Highly organized and flexible, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines, often with frequent interruptions and changing circumstances in a high-volume fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to review, analyze and interpret information as well as troubleshooting to solve problems.
  • Must be able to interact effectively with all levels of management.
  • An understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and cost accounting.

Typical Physical and Mental Demands:
  • Ability to drive an automobile for required travel
  • Requires occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.

Working Conditions:

This position operates primarily in the field requires travel to and from various locations daily. Some work will be performed in a standard office environment requiring the use of standard office equipment. Standing and walking will be required both in the field and in the office environment. The environment is fast paced and subject to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activity. Transportation is required; Safety concerns include dangers while driving.
