The Leadership & Capability Director helps Copeland translate business strategy into workforce capability by building the leaders, skills, and capabilities required to improve performance today while preparing the workforce for tomorrow.


This role leads Copeland's global leadership and capability development strategy, strengthening leadership effectiveness, building critical workforce capabilities, and supporting execution of the company's strategic priorities.


Working with business leaders, functional subject matter experts, and HR colleagues, this role connects development priorities to business needs and ensures investments in leadership and capability building deliver measurable value.


Success in this role requires balancing strategic thinking with practical execution, ensuring development investments translate into stronger business performance, leadership capability, and workforce readiness.


As the Director, Leadership & Capability, you will focus on:

Leadership Development
  • Lead Copeland's leadership development strategy, programs, and experiences to strengthen leadership effectiveness, drive performance, and support business priorities
  • Partner with Talent & Performance to accelerate readiness for critical leadership roles and strengthen succession pipelines

Functional Capability Development
  • Partner with business leaders and functional subject matter experts to build capabilities that support growth, productivity, innovation, quality, customer outcomes, and operational performance
  • Design practical and scalable development solutions across leadership, commercial, operational, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and other business-critical domains
  • Partner with functional experts to translate business and technical expertise into high-impact development solutions that build workforce capability and drive business results
  • Embed development in the flow of work and connect learning investments to business outcomes

Future Workforce & Leadership Skills Planning
  • Partner with business and other HR/COE leaders to identify the workforce and leadership skills Copeland will need to execute its strategy today and in the future
  • Establish practical approaches to skill assessment that identify strengths, gaps, and development priorities across critical roles and talent populations
  • Translate skill insights into clear plans that guide capability building, leadership development, talent decisions, and workforce readiness

Talent Acceleration & Early Career Development
  • Lead development initiatives for high-potential talent, successor populations, and participants in Accelerate, Copeland's early career development program
  • Utilize coaching, mentoring, action learning, stretch assignments, and peer learning to accelerate readiness and capability growth

Development Strategy, Technology & Execution
  • Establish enterprise approaches to leadership and capability development aligned with Copeland's strategic and talent priorities
  • Leverage learning technologies, including AI-enabled solutions, to improve development effectiveness, accessibility, personalization, and scalability
  • Evaluate program effectiveness using data, stakeholder feedback, and business outcomes to ensure investments deliver measurable value

We are seeking a business-focused leadership and capability development leader who understands how organizations build competitive advantage through people.


This individual combines deep expertise in leadership development with experience building commercial, operational, technical, and/or functional capabilities in complex organizations.


The ideal candidate can translate business priorities into practical development solutions, work effectively with senior leaders and functional experts, and create development experiences that improve performance, capability, and readiness. They bring strong learning design expertise and can help subject matter experts turn business and functional knowledge into development that is clear, engaging, practical, and consistently high quality. They are also comfortable using emerging learning technologies, including AI-enabled approaches, to improve development at scale.
