Full Job Description
POSITION: Director, Lab Operations LOCATION: DeLand, FL WORK TYPE: Onsite SALARY: $150,000 - $170,000/yr (plus up to 20% performance-based bonus) TYPE: Permanent CATEGORY: Healthcare JOB DESCRIPTION: The Director, Laboratory Operations is responsible for the day-to-day technical and scientific operation of the laboratory and other duties as delegated by the Medical Director. This position provides for the overall operation, leadership, direction, and administration of the Clinical Laboratories in accordance with CAP, Federal, and State regulations governing clinical laboratories. This position reports to the VP, Lab Operations. Key Responsibilities: 1. Oversees Operational and Strategic Objectives • Manages laboratory lanes to budget through cost savings and productivity monitoring • Monitors and utilizes data to evaluate and drive business decisions for capital and team member resources • Standardizes and ensures policy and procedures are current for services at lab locations and meet federal, state, and local regulatory requirements • Facilitates communication between business lanes and shifts and across departments • Oversees the development and/or expansion of service lines and projects for long-term planning for internal and external business opportunities 2. Provides Leadership to Clinical Lab Teams • Provides guidance regarding strategies to continuously improve service offerings and support organization capabilities • Sets performance standards and utilizes influence to meet department and organization goals and initiatives • Drives engagement and a sense of belonging on the team • Mentors and develops leaders and emerging talent 3. Oversees Training, Competency, and Performance • Oversees the training, competency, and performance of laboratory testing by team members • Ensures recording and resulting of tests are accurate to assure compliance with applicable regulations 4. Quality Assurance and Control • Ensures quality control and quality assurance programs are established and maintained to assure quality of laboratory services provided 5. Customer Relations • Ensures good customer relations for internal and external customers • Resolves problems in a timely manner 6. Other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related sciences • Minimum 10 years of recent experience in Microbiology • Minimum 8 years of laboratory management experience in high-complexity, high-volume testing environments • Medical Technologist registry (ASCP, NCA, AAB, or equivalent) • Florida Supervisor License in Microbiology or as a Generalist (candidates without this license will be required to obtain it upon relocation to Florida) • Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook • Demonstrated success leading large teams in high-volume laboratory environments • Experience managing technical or platform transitions, ideally across multiple sites • Proven ability to oversee laboratory operations in compliance with CAP, federal, and state clinical laboratory regulations • Strong track record of developing leaders, building bench strength, and upleveling team capability • Effective communication skills that build trust, morale, and team engagement across diverse teams • Ability to set clear performance standards and drive accountability through influence and collaboration • Demonstrated commitment to championing a culture of belonging and continuous development • Proven mentoring of emerging talent PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Master's degree in Business Administration or relevant sciences • Experience implementing new programs or products in a clinical laboratory setting WHAT WE OFFER: We provide more than just compensation.
