About the Role:

As Director, Investment Operations, you will lead the team responsible for the integrity, control and scalability of CAAT's operating environment across both public and private market portfolios.

Supporting an approximately $25 billion portfolio, you will oversee key activities spanning investment accounting, fund administration, financial reporting, valuations, tax and custody and cash management. As the portfolio continues to grow in complexity, you will help ensure our operating model, policies and controls continue to scale with the needs of the organization.

You will also contribute to senior management and governance reporting, including investment cost and benchmarking activities, and may periodically present complex investment-operational matters to senior leadership and the Investment Committee.

As the Newest Member of Our Team, You'll:
  • Lead the Public Markets and Private Markets Operations teams, creating clear accountability, strong collaboration and consistent standards across the team.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to staff supporting their professional development and promoting a high-performance team culture.
  • Manage the relationship with CIBC Mellon (custodian, fund administrator and securities lending agent) ensuring issues are effectively managed and service expectations are met.
  • Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of accounting and custody records.
  • Ensure investment-related tax compliance is met including all foreign filing obligations, tax documentation for investment entities and withholding tax recovery in collaboration with external tax advisors.
  • Act as a senior point of escalation for complex operational, accounting and valuation related matters.
  • Partner with Investment teams to ensure new mandates and investment structures are operationally supported
  • Lead continuous improvement across the function by identifying opportunities to simplify processes, reduce manual work, strengthen controls and improve scalability through automation and technology.
  • Support investment-related financial reporting, audit requirements and other governance activities in partnership with Finance, Investments and external auditors.
  • Build strong partnerships across Investments, Finance, Legal, Information Technology and other functions to resolve issues and advance enterprise priorities.
  • Establish and maintain strong policies and controls that protect the integrity of investment data and accounting records.


To Succeed, You Bring:
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in investment operations, finance, accounting, or related function.
  • Experience within a pension plan, institutional asset owner, sophisticated asset manager, insurer or comparable investment organization is a strong asset.
  • knowledge of private equity, infrastructure, private credit and/or real estate investment structures, including related operational, accounting and valuation considerations.
  • Strong working knowledge of public-market investment operations and the ability to provide effective oversight across areas such as equities, fixed income, derivatives, cash and liquidity.
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, including the ability to coach, develop and empower experienced professionals and people leaders.
  • Sound analytical judgment and the ability to investigate complex issues, challenge assumptions and ensure information is accurate, complete and decision useful.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with Investment professionals, Finance leaders, external providers and senior executives.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex investment, financial and operational matters clearly to stakeholders.
  • Experience leading meaningful process improvements or system implementations within an investment or financial environment is an asset.
  • A CPA, CFA, CBV or other relevant professional designation is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with investment cost reporting and benchmarking (such as CEM Benchmarking), private market accounting systems (eFront) or comparable would be considered an asset.
