Full Job Description
Director of Investment Management to join our team. This individual will oversee external asset manager relationships and drives strategic asset allocation decisions for the organization. Serves as the primary driver for automation initiatives, investment projects, and process improvement efforts across the investment function. Collaborates with the Director, Investment Analysis who provides supporting expertise on shared initiatives.
Core Responsibilities
  • Oversee relationships with external asset managers, including performance monitoring, due diligence, and contract negotiations
  • Lead strategic asset allocation analysis and recommendations to optimize portfolio positioning
  • Drive rebalancing decisions and tactical allocation adjustments based on market conditions
  • Develop and maintain the Investment Policy Statement (IPS) and recommend policy updates to the Investment Committee
  • Lead manager search and selection processes, including RFP development and evaluation as necessary.
  • Monitor economic and market conditions to inform strategic positioning and identify risks and opportunities
  • SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES (Primary Owner):
    • Lead automation initiatives across the investment function, identifying opportunities and driving implementation
    • Manage investment projects from inception to completion, coordinating resources and timelines
    • Champion process improvement efforts, establishing best practices and driving operational efficiency
    • Coordinate with Director, Investment Analysis to ensure alignment on shared initiatives
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in investment management, asset allocation, or portfolio management
  • 3+ years in a leadership role with external manager oversight experience
  • Demonstrated success leading automation and process improvement initiatives.
  • In depth knowledge of the principles, processes, and practices related to investments.
  • High ability to solve problems and work under pressure.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance products and operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to internal and external peers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills including ability to analyze new investment opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply portfolio management principles within an insurance company environment, including asset allocation, risk management, income generation, and liquidity considerations.
  • Strong ability to evaluate investment strategies, manager performance, portfolio positioning, and policy alignment to support disciplined investment decision-making.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance investment management practices, including portfolio construction, fixed income strategies, investment policy requirements, risk controls, and external manager oversight.
  • Working knowledge of insurance financial drivers, including capital, surplus, liquidity, statutory accounting considerations, asset-liability management, and regulatory expectations.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or related field required
  • MBA or CFA designation strongly preferred
