Full Job Description

YOU’RE A FORWARD-THINKING, ADAPTIVE, STRATEGIC TECH LEADER.

The Opportunity
Are you a strategic technologist who thrives on modernizing complex platforms and delivering innovative technology solutions? As our Director, IT, you will be the primary architect of the technology strategy, platforms, and delivery capabilities that power AMA’s Insurance operations. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Insurance, and indirectly to the Chief Transformation Officer, Association, you will provide strategic stewardship of our core Insurance platforms—including Guidewire—ensuring they remain secure, reliable, and integrated into a modern digital ecosystem.

In this leadership role, you will work as a strategic partner alongside executive leaders in Underwriting, Claims, and Agency to co-create technology plans that improve operations and enhance the member experience. While ensuring our systems are stable and scalable, you will also serve as an advocate for digital modernization and AI enablement, identifying opportunities to leverage emerging technologies to increase productivity and deliver new value-added capabilities for our members and employees.

Who You Are

  • You are a strategic and analytical leader who can simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences while managing multiple high-impact initiatives.
  • With a deep understanding of Insurance platform architectures, you excel at balancing the need for rapid innovation with the requirements for stability and security.
  • You are an adaptive technologist who is comfortable applying machine learning and AI concepts to real-world operational processes and software development workflows.
  • Your leadership style is rooted in relationship-building, allowing you to align cross-functional teams and external vendors toward shared transformation goals.
  • You thrive in a regulatory and compliance-focused environment, ensuring every technical decision aligns with the highest standards for privacy and cybersecurity.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • You will define and evolve the Insurance technology strategy, ensuring our roadmap accelerates both business goals and AMA’s enterprise transformation agenda.
  • By providing executive leadership over core systems, you will oversee the development and integration of underwriting, claims, and billing solutions to ensure they are stable and user-focused.
  • You will advocate for digital enablement across Insurance functions, championing technologies that improve operational efficiency and digital member experiences.
  • Through strategic vendor management, you will leverage external partners to accelerate modernization and access specialized technical skills.
  • You will lead the modernization of our Insurance data platform, advancing API and cloud-based integration capabilities to increase business agility.
  • As a mentor, you will supervise and develop high-performing technical teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.

What You Bring to the Table

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; advanced certifications like PMP or ITIL are significant assets.
  • You bring significant leadership experience in IT, with a specialized background in Insurance or financial services technology.
  • You have a strong technical understanding of modern engineering practices, cloud technologies, and core platforms like Guidewire.
  • Your experience includes a proven ability to lead through change and manage the ambiguity that comes with large-scale digital transformations.
