Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: Evaluates quality of patient care and patient outcomes as they relate to healthcare-associated infections; collects, prepares and analyzes healthcare-associated infection data; presents infection data and makes recommendations for actions; monitors employee compliance in use of barriers and infection prevention measures; prepares and presents educational offerings for the staff and new hires; serves as a resource to all departments and personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Current Michigan RN license required.

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Required, Masters preferred.

Five years of experience as Registered Nurse (3 years in a position of leadership - nursing or education).

2+ years experience in infection prevention in a hospital setting, preferably in behavioral health.

2+ years experience in training infection prevention and mandatory clinical trainings in a hospital setting, preferably in behavioral health.

CIC (certification in infection control) required within one year in position.

Ability to develop policies and procedures.

Ability to teach and evaluate clinical performance.

Must be able to interact positively and to establish successful interpersonal relationships with leadership and staff.

REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION:
Hearing: Hearing acuity sufficient to perform job functions.
Speaking: Able to articulate goals and objectives of the Center and to effectively present information to management, committees, staff, patients, families, licensing and regulating agencies.
Vision: Normal visual acuity.
Writing: Written communications skills needed to effectively document in-patient records, assists in Performance Improvement activities and complete reports applying to job title.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides infection prevention offerings for orientation and on-going in-services

Consults with department heads and physicians as needed to improve care.

Participates in quality improvement activities.

Coordinates and trains clinical personnel as required by TJC and CMS.

Coordinates, plans and implements annual clinical and non-clinical competencies as required by TJC and CMS.

Coordinates, plans, and provides various in-service education on new equipment, policies and procedures as needed.

Assesses staff education needs and evaluates the education activities and programs.

Serves on other task force/committees as needed.

Provides education consultation for clinical areas as needed.

Initiates, develops, revises and updates policies and procedures as needed.

Manages the monitoring of healthcare-associated infections.

Identifies infection prevention problems and makes recommendations for corrective action.

Prepares the agenda for the Infection Prevention Committee.

Monitors infection prevention practices and employee compliance.

Conducts outbreak investigation and initiates control measures.

Reports communicable diseases to the state as required by law.

Initiates follow-up on employee/patient exposures to communicable diseases.

Participates in short and long term planning for staff clinical education and infection prevention.

Oversees and manages The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) surveys, ensures mandatory trainings (CPI, CPR) and TB results are up-to-date for every employee, which may also include influenza shots.

Performs other duties as directed
