Job Details

As a key member of the Corporate Responsibility team, the Director of Global Environmental Sustainability is the senior most expert responsible for building and executing Cencora's enterprise-wide environmental strategy. This role involves advising the company on sustainability initiatives, setting and achieving targets, and managing resources and timelines. The Director leads efforts to make Cencora a more sustainable enterprise, engaging both internal and external stakeholders to drive impactful environmental outcomes. This self-motivated leader is also responsible for educating senior management on sustainability strategies to secure necessary approvals and resources.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead the company's environmental sustainability and climate strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and global best practices.
  • Utilize data analytics to track environmental performance, identify risks and opportunities, and drive strategic decision-making.
  • Educate senior management and other key stakeholders on sustainability issues, making compelling cases for strategic initiatives and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards, and oversee the preparation of sustainability reports and disclosures.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance the company's sustainability efforts, introducing innovative solutions to complex environmental challenges.
  • Develop and manage budgets for sustainability initiatives, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Identify appropriate sustainability metrics; track, measure, and analyze inputs, outputs, and impacts for internal and external reporting.
  • Develop and implement a decarbonization roadmap to achieve Cencora's science-based targets for carbon reduction and supplier engagement.
  • Lead U.S. and global decarbonization working groups, fostering cross-functional collaboration to meet sustainability objectives.
  • Spearhead the enterprise's renewable energy procurement strategy worldwide.
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce resource use, energy consumption, pollution, and waste.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate exceptional sustainability outcomes and build strong partnerships.
  • Provide global sustainability best practices guidance, collaborating with key partners across Cencora's businesses.
  • Draft and implement globally relevant sustainability guidelines and policies.
  • Build partnerships across the enterprise to align sustainability goals with shared business objectives, involving operations, HR, PR, government affairs, investor relations, and more.
  • Monitor sustainability regulations and issues, communicating relevant changes to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee the CDP and TCFD submission processes and annual data collection.
  • Collaborate with the business resilience team on climate-related risk assessments and incorporate findings into business continuity planning.
  • Operate effectively with limited resources, taking initiative and action with minimal direction.
  • Supervise and develop direct reports, maximizing team resources and performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education and Work Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 7-10+ years of experience in environmental sustainability, with demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Experience with CDP, SBTi, TCFD, and GHG reporting protocols is preferred.
  • Experience managing remote team members.


Skills and Knowledge
  • In-depth understanding of sustainability best practices and trends; strong knowledge of CDP, TCFD, and other ESG rankings/ratings.
  • Strong strategic planning skills, including roadmap development, timeline management, and resource allocation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex topics to varied audiences.
  • Ability to educate and influence senior management and team members on strategic plans.
