Full Job Description
Director, Full Stack Engineering
Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned engineering leader to lead our Full Stack Engineering team, responsible for building and scaling our critical Enterprise Clinical workflows platform. The Butterfly Cloud provides a secure and robust connection to user's health information - powering tools and services that help doctors and clinicians make informed, intelligent diagnostic decisions with the help of their peers.

As Director, you will lead a distributed team of engineers across both onshore and offshore locations, setting the technical direction for our enterprise platform - including user and organization administration, feature and entitlement management, global search, audit logging, and scalable platform features. You'll partner closely with Product, Design, and other engineering leaders to shape roadmap priorities and drive execution across the full stack.

As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be to:
  • Lead, grow, and inspire a high-performing full stack engineering team spanning onshore and offshore engineers - fostering a culture of excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Define and drive the technical strategy and architecture for the Enterprise Clinical workflows platform, balancing innovation with reliability, security, and scalability.
  • Own engineering roadmap execution - partnering with Product and Design to translate business goals into clear, well-scoped plans, and holding the team accountable to delivery.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop top engineering talent; build a healthy team culture where people grow and do their best work.
  • Establish and evolve engineering processes - code review standards, on-call practices, incident response, and cross-team ways of working - to maximize team effectiveness across time zones.
  • Serve as a senior technical voice across the organization, contributing to architectural decisions, evaluating new technologies, and raising the bar on engineering quality.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships with Product, Design, Data, Security, and Compliance stakeholders to ensure alignment and unblock the team.
  • Drive a culture of observability, operational excellence, and HIPAA/PHI compliance across the platform.
Qualifications

Baseline skills/experiences/attributes:
  • 6+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3-5 years in engineering management or a senior technical leadership role.
  • Proven track record of leading distributed engineering teams, including managing offshore or nearshore teams across multiple time zones.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, cloud architecture, and full stack web development at scale. Experience hiring, developing, and retaining senior engineering talent; track record of building strong, cohesive teams.
  • Strong product sensibility - ability to translate ambiguous business problems into clear engineering plans and drive execution with minimal direction.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills; comfortable presenting to senior leadership and partnering across functions.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Ideally, you also have these skills/experiences/attributes (but it's ok if you don't!):

  • Experience with LLMs and MLOps Containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, ECS, EKS Web apps with live updates - pub/sub solutions (such as Redis), WebSockets
  • Designing and building observability solutions utilizing modern monitoring, logging, and metrics tools Frontend experience with React and TypeScript Opensearch or other Lucene-based search engines
