Job overview and responsibilities

This individual manages the portfolio of efficiency and operational reliability projects in work across the Flight Operations Division. This Director leads and develops a multinational team of analysts and data scientists responsible for delivering detailed statistical analyses, data visualizations, actionable reports, and projects on operational reliability, efficiency, productivity, safety, training, and performance.

  • Understands key flight operations business drivers while leading projects impacting the flight operations and key business stakeholders. Identifiable reports are used to improve decision-making, reliability and efficiency in areas of business, safety, training, operations, and maintenance affecting flight operations.
  • Collaborates with Digital Technology and adjacent Operational teams to analyze, track, and predict areas of performance while providing visibility through data and visualizations of the progress across a range of initiatives and projects
  • Coordinates with stakeholders in United's Safety Management System (SMS) to integrate performance and safety related initiatives with real-time data analytics
  • Identifying signals of Flight Operations performance with predictive analytics and informing, advising, and guiding on improvements and process adjustments
  • Ensures that reporting tools and reports are up to date and maintained to enable reliable, effective evaluation of the division's operational integrity.
  • Attracts, leads, and provides leadership development to build high-caliber leaders who excel in coaching and feedback, change management, leadership of influence, project planning and execution, application, and activation of analytics who create a significant positive impact to United
  • Establishing priorities, plans, and conducting the implementation on time, with quality, and under budget, while partnering effectively with the rest of the stakeholder teams
  • Managing the development and implementation of programs that apply a variety of analytics skills by partnering with relevant organizations across the analytics community as needed, while maintaining data accuracy (single source of truth), timeliness, and reliability in
  • high-stakes decision contexts.
  • Foster close working relationships with cross divisional teams in pursuit of higher efficiency and reliability levels.


Qualifications

What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, information systems, engineering, or another quantitative field (i.e. mathematics, statistics, economics, etc.)
  • 6+ years of experience in leading professional teams in analytics and data science
  • At least 2 years of managerial/supervisory experience including budgeting, recruitment, and people management.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience at application of successive levels of quantitative and analytical fields e.g. IE, OR, Statistics, ML/AI, financial modeling etc.
  • Experience in managing large projects
  • Understanding, quantifying, and solving complex Flight Operations business needs and problems.
  • Design a data/technology solutions that connect business processes, Safety Management Systems obligations, and performance objectives with quantifiable outcomes
  • Understanding and competency with data governance and data quality management.
  • Strong analytical ability, pro-active thinking to solve business problems to ensure robust, appropriate, value-added business solutions.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, creativity and innovation in generating solutions and recommendations
  • Strong project management and execution skills.
  • Significant interpersonal and people skills; excellent consulting and communication skills.
  • Able to constructively engage, negotiate, resolve conflict and influence leaders.
