Job Summary

Reporting to the Finance Tax leader, this role is responsible for supporting strategic initiatives of the Company from a tax perspective as well as assisting with the organization's recurring tax compliance and similar deliverables. This role will collaborate with Legal and other internal stakeholders on the implementation of strategic transactions and will provide the associated tax support and analysis. Research, analyze and documents tax issues, including related conclusions. Responsible for monitoring the external environment with regard to tax changes and liaising with industry trade groups to ensure the Company stays abreast of tax developments. This role will recommend and implement changes to tax processes and procedures, particularly with respect to tax risk management. Works closely with all areas within Corporate Finance and with other Company functions as assignments require.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides assistance with partnership tax matters, inclusive of liaison role with compliance service provider with respect to tax deliverables and related tax analyses
  • Serves as the primary liaison and tax business partner to the Company's Asset Management business segment, advising on tax issues, fund structures and other vehicles, etc.
  • Assists with tax compliance deliverables across various tax types - income, withholding, excise, etc.
  • Provides assistance with international tax issues inclusive of withholding tax, permanent establishment considerations, reportable payments under the Base Erosion tax regime, Pillar II requirements and calculations, and other cross-border tax matters
  • Monitors tax legislation and administrative guidance originating with various tax authorities, as well as judicial developments, that could impact the Company's tax profile and tax results
  • Performs independent tax research and analysis and documents conclusions; communicates research results and impacts to 2VP of Tax as well as broader Company management
  • Assists with product tax matters inclusive of product qualification analysis, tax reporting and customer inquiries.
  • Provides assistance with the valuation of uncertain tax positions and the management of enterprise tax risks
  • Aid and support with tax audits and appeals inclusive of responding to auditor requests, tax notices, preparing required protests for tax appeals, etc.
  • Interacts with other areas of the Company in Tax role and builds collaborative relationships with key business partners - e.g., Actuarial, Compliance, Operations, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field, or Juris Doctor degree required
  • CPA and/or Masters degree in Taxation preferred
  • 8+ years of accounting and tax experience
  • 3 - 6 years of experience in a mid-level tax role in the insurance industry
  • Deep experience with research, evaluations of technical tax issues and related risks, and written communications on tax matters
  • Highly collaborative team player with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Strong execution skills with ability to build/manage a comprehensive plan and meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent judgment, communication, and time management skills
  • Strong technology skills and use of various applications/software (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Microsoft Office); PeopleSoft experience a plus
