The Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Finance & Controller provides strategic and operational leadership for all accounting, financial reporting, controllership, billing, settlements, budgeting, treasury administration, and financial operations across InnPower Corporation, InnServices Utilities Inc., and affiliated entities.

The Director is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the Corporation's financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, supporting statutory compliance, and leading continuous improvement initiatives across finance operations. The role oversees the Finance Managers and Manager of Billing & Settlements, providing leadership that promotes operational excellence, financial stewardship, collaboration, and employee development. Working closely with the CFO and senior leadership team, the Director supports strategic financial planning, capital investment decisions, enterprise risk management, and organizational growth while ensuring efficient day-to-day financial operations.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Financial Leadership & Controllership:

  • Lead all accounting and financial operations for InnPower, InnServices and affiliated corporations.
  • Ensure accurate, complete and timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting in accordance with IFRS and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements, regulatory filings, stakeholder reporting, and other required disclosures.
  • Ensure appropriate accounting policies are developed, documented and consistently applied.
  • Lead the annual external audits and coordinate all audit activities.


Financial Planning & Analysis:

  • Provide leadership for annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Oversee corporate forecasting and long-range financial planning.
  • Utilize legacy FP&A tools and lead the adoption of evolving AI developments in FP&A to review financial performance against budget and identify trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Develop meaningful financial performance indicators and dashboards.
  • Provide financial analysis supporting capital investments, infrastructure planning and major corporate initiatives.
  • Support the CFO in development of long-term financial strategies.
  • Lead ongoing modernization of finance operations including the evaluation and adoption of AI tools to support efficiency and the effectiveness of the group.
  • Champion automation and process improvements.
  • Provide sponsorship for ERP implementations and upgrades.
  • Improve reporting capabilities through technology.
  • Establish standardized financial processes across all corporations.
  • Promote data integrity and system governance.
  • Collaborate with leaders across Finance and the business to assess financial reporting impacts, and enable informed decision-making.


Internal Controls & Corporate Governance:

  • Lead development and maintenance of the Corporation's internal control framework.
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls exist to safeguard corporate assets.
  • Monitor compliance with accounting standards, legislation, corporate policies and requirements.
  • Recommend improvements to financial governance and business processes.
  • Coordinate implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Support enterprise risk management from a financial perspective.


Billing & Settlements Oversight:

  • Provide oversight of all billing and settlement activities including:
    • Electricity distribution billing
    • Water and wastewater billing
    • Utility settlements
    • Revenue reconciliation
    • Market settlements
    • Customer billing controls
    • Revenue assurance
    • Billing system integrity
  • Ensure:
    • Accurate and timely customer billing
    • Regulatory compliance
    • Strong billing controls
    • Effective reconciliation processes
    • Continuous improvement of billing systems and customer experience.


Treasury & Cash Management:

  • Oversee corporate cash management.
  • Monitor cash flow and liquidity requirements.
  • Support debt financing activities and banking relationships.
  • Oversee investment activities in accordance with corporate policies.
  • Review borrowing requirements and financing recommendations for the CFO.


Leadership & People Management:

  • Provide leadership and coaching to the Finance Managers (2) and Billing & Settlements Manager.
  • Manage staff performance, professional development, cross-functional collaboration, workload distribution, and training.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous improvement and customer service excellence.


Other Responsibilities:

  • Support the CFO with the following (when required):
    • Ontario Energy Board reporting
    • Regulatory financial filings
    • Rate applications
    • Government reporting
    • Other various reporting obligations


Qualifications

  • University Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related discipline.
  • CPA designation in good standing
  • Minimum of ten years of progressive accounting and finance experience, preferably within a utility or multi-entity structure.
  • Minimum of five years of senior leadership experience.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary finance teams.
  • Experience within an Ontario electricity distributor, municipal utility, or broader public sector organization is considered a strong asset.
  • Deep expertise in IFRS, external financial reporting, accounting policy, and financial controls.
  • Experience managing external audits, regulatory reporting, and financial reporting governance frameworks.
  • Experience leading ERP implementations and financial system improvements.
  • Proficiency in analyzing financial data.
  • Experience in budgeting processes, financial forecasting, and FP&A leadership.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License.
