The team advises public sector leaders, enabling secure, scalable applications using Akamai's distributed cloud, AI infrastructure, and zero-trust security solutions.

Partner with the best

This position involves engaging with Defense and Intelligence security stakeholders, including DoD, IC, and COCOMs. Responsibilities include representing Security and Defense Edge solutions, collaborating with sales and growth teams, and relaying customer insights to product development.

As a Director Field Technology, you will be responsible for:
  • Operating as the primary contact for security and ADE products while supporting Sales efforts across DoD, IC, and COCOM accounts.
  • Building a community of DoD and IC customers to provide feedback on product roadmaps and capability priorities, including compliance requirements.
  • Leading engagements with journalists and Industry Analysts (Gartner, Forrester) in support of the PR/AR teams, reinforcing credibility in regulated defense environments
  • Discussing security industry trends and the Akamai Defense Edge portfolio at defense-focused events such as AFCEA TechNet and AUSA Annual Meeting.
  • Educating customer-facing organizations on emerging trends in Zero Trust, Least Permissive Trust, Tactical ICAM, and AI Runtime Defense for mission environments
  • Serving as the solutions-architecture 'voice' for holistic Federal/DoD solutions, translating product capability into mission outcomes for COCOMs, DISA, and military CIO/CTO offices
  • Supporting capture and proposal teams as a named technical thought leader and SME on high-priority Defense Edge opportunities

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:
  • Possess over 12 of relevant cybersecurity experience with a background in Computer Science, Engineering, related field, or equivalent.
  • Enjoy working cross-functionally with field teams, customers, partners, and C-Suite/senior government stakeholders to drive product strategy
  • Be an expert in edge-native security, Zero Trust architecture, and shrinking complex attack surfaces
  • Secure distributed workloads by enforcing Zero Trust frameworks, protecting hybrid environments, and addressing emerging threats across diverse operational landscapes.
  • Understand AI Runtime Defense: knowledge of the security challenges of live AI models and agentic workflows
  • Have experience evangelizing and driving cybersecurity, edge defense, and technical initiatives across the broader public sector community
  • Demonstrate knowledge of DoD Cloud Security Requirements Guide IL4/IL5/IL6, FedRAMP High, Intelligence Community Directive 705, and CMMC compliance frameworks.

Compensation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $159,600 - $287,400/year; a candidate's salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
