Why This Role Matters:

Supermicro is seeking an experienced Director of Federal Compliance to design, implement, and oversee the compliance program for its new federal entity (initially split from the parent company). This foundational role will ensure full adherence to federal contracting regulations, government security requirements, and internal policies. The ideal candidate will build a robust compliance framework tailored to the U.S. federal government market, support secure expansion into federal agencies, drive sustainability initiatives aligned with government mandates, and promote a strong culture of compliance across the federal business. The successful candidate will bring leading practices from federal and government contracting environments and adapt them to Supermicro's operations.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and deliver the annual Federal Regulatory Compliance plan/calendar, incorporating federal fiscal year cycles, appropriations, agency-specific requirements, and evolving regulations.
  • Design, implement, and manage compliance processes and procedures to support qualified certifications and positioning for federal market access, including government contracting vehicles, security authorizations, and supply chain requirements.
  • Oversee the organization's Federal Compliance Program, including ongoing development, implementation, and monitoring of policies, practices, and procedures to ensure adherence to applicable federal laws, regulations (e.g., FAR, DFARS, ITAR/EAR), and internal standards.
  • Provide management reports on federal compliance operations, risks, and progress to senior leadership, relevant committees, and the Board.
  • Oversee supplier due diligence for responsible sourcing, conflict minerals, and supply chain security requirements relevant to federal customers.
  • Stay informed on pending federal and industry regulatory changes (e.g., CMMC, NIST SP 800-171/800-172, FedRAMP, cybersecurity, trade compliance), assess impacts, and drive proactive adaptations.
  • Contribute to remediation efforts, testing reviews, process improvements, documentation, and training to address compliance findings and regulatory risks.
  • Provide practical guidance and proportionate remediation strategies to senior management on federal compliance, conduct, and risk issues identified through monitoring and investigations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, engineering, operations, legal, and HR teams on federal-specific initiatives, including product certifications, sustainability reporting, business continuity, whistleblower programs, and code of conduct enforcement in the federal context.
  • Support reporting for federal customers, investors, and partners using frameworks relevant to government (e.g., CDP, GRI, TCFD, and federal sustainability reporting standards).
  • Build and maintain key partnerships with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and federal stakeholders to support compliance and sustainability objectives.

What You'll Bring:

  • Advanced degree (Master's or equivalent) in Law, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Business, Public Administration, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in corporate compliance, risk management, auditing, or government contracting compliance, with at least 7-10 years focused on federal/public sector environments and 5+ years in senior leadership.
  • Proven track record developing and managing practical compliance solutions in government contracting settings, including direct experience with FAR/DFARS, CMMC, NIST standards, supply chain security, and export controls.
  • Strong subject-matter expertise in federal and international environmental/sustainability regulations (EU RoHS, REACH, TSCA, CA Prop 65, Conflict Minerals, federal green procurement rules) and ESG frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success building or scaling a compliance program from the ground up, ideally in a newly established federal or government-focused business unit.
  • Experience developing and managing multi-disciplinary teams of compliance, sustainability, and audit professionals.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills at all levels, including executive leadership, federal agencies, and board members.
  • Strong investigative, analytical, and strategic thinking abilities with the capacity to translate high-level regulatory strategy into actionable operational plans.
  • Superior ability to foster and steer a culture of compliance and ethical conduct in a highly regulated federal sales and operations environment.
  • Ability to effectively represent the organization and build collaborative relationships with government customers, primes, regulators, and internal teams.
