Description:
Reporting to the CAO, the incumbent is responsible for the overall effective and efficient management of the operational infrastructure required to support the core business (research, teaching and administrative activities) of John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design (Daniels Faculty). The position will liaise and collaborate with key stakeholders across the University (ex. Strategic Planning and Space Management; Building and Property Maintenance; Capital and Renovation Project Management; Environmental Health and Safety; Risk Management; Security) to ensure proper management of operational infrastructure.
The position focuses on ensuring the faculty's needs related to facilities are met and are consistent with university policies and procedures. With Central University units, the incumbent manages the operations of infrastructure, maintenance and physical of the Daniels Faculty, which encompasses 1 Spadina Crescent, North Borden building, South Borden building and Earth Sciences building. The position provides leadership and expertise in the planning, budgeting and execution of maintenance requirements including liaising with trades and building management. The incumbent will also provide expertise and consult for infrastructure and maintenance requirements for studios, workshops fabrication and research laboratories and oversee the support of public programs and exhibitions at the faculty.
The incumbent implements infrastructure renewal, deferred and major maintenance projects and other capital improvements, ensuring they meet applicable codes and standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: University degree in engineering or architecture, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Qualifications in facilities design and management (e.g. CFM with the IFMA or FMA (Facilities Management Administrator), BOMA) an asset. Professional designation in Engineering (i.e. P.Eng) or Architecture an sset.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five (5) years' experience in: facilities and space management; Experience managing and supervising a space management team in a unionized environment; Project Management experience. Experience in studio, workshop, research laboratory and teaching environments; Demonstrated experience in managing maintenance budgets and performing financial analyses of alternatives; Experience with strategic planning with an emphasis on capital projects; Demonstrated experience in Health and Safety issues, Fire Prevention, Emergency Planning and Emergency Response; Experience within a complex organizational environment would be an asset; Experience with management and supervision required; Project Management experience.
SKILLS: Understanding and extensive knowledge of building design, construction, engineering systems and practices; Familiarity with federal, provincial and local government legislation relevant to Environmental Health and Safety issue; Good numerical skills required; Ability to use CAD software for plans and 3-D drawings, and spreadsheets/analytical software proficiently; Ability to draw and interpret sketches and review architectural and engineering drawings; Proficient in using Microsoft 365 applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Proficient in other IT computing areas; Knowledge of building and service contracts, and contracting processes and practices.
