The Director of Environmental Services role involves providing strategic leadership in developing, implementing, and overseeing environmental programs to ensure compliance with regulations, minimizing environmental impact, and promote sustainable practices. The ideal candidate will have extensive background in environmental management, with specific knowledge of the unique challenges and regulations within the air and ground ambulance industry sector.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Environmental Compliance: Provide strategic leadership and oversight in the development and implementation of comprehensive environmental policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with local, state, and federal regulations, with specific emphasis on California’s environmental requirements.
- Regulatory Liaison: Serves as the primary point of contact for environmental regulatory agencies, maintaining awareness of changes in regulations and facilitating communication with relevant stakeholders.
- Environmental Audits: Lead regular environmental audits to assess compliance, identify areas for improvement, and direct the implementation of corrective actions in collaboration with local operations leadership and teams.
- Waste Management: Develops and oversees enterprise-wide waste management programs, including hazardous waste disposal and sustainability initiatives.
- Spill Response Planning: Lead the development and maintenance of spill response plans for both air and ground operations, ensuring timely and effective response to minimize environmental impact.
- Environmental Training: Oversee and deliver training to employees on environmental policies, procedures, and best practices, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.
- Environmental Risk Assessments: Lead environmental impact assessments for new projects, operations, or changes to existing processes, ensuring potential environmental risks are identified and mitigated
- Reporting: Prepare and submit required environmental reports to regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and internal management. This includes engaging legal for “Notices of Violation” when they occur.
- Environmental Risk Assessments: Coordinates environmental impact assessments for new projects, operations, or changes to existing processes, ensuring potential environmental risks are identified and mitigated.
- Reporting: Prepare and submit required environmental reports to regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and internal management. This includes engaging legal for “Notices of Violation” when they occur.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in environmental management, with a strong understanding of California's environmental regulations and familiarity with CERS and SMARTS compliance platforms.
- Knowledge of environmental monitoring and reporting tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Certification as a Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) or similar credentials are a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in Lean Six Sigma and Kaizen implementation for process improvement and operational excellence.
- Familiarity with sustainability best practices and emerging trends in environmental management.
- Certifications in environmental management (e.g., CEM, CHMM) are a plus.
- Strong knowledge and utilization of Microsoft Office products.
