Full Job Description

Job Summary
The Director of Environmental Compliance is in charge of establishing, implementing, and overseeing corporate environmental programs, permitting, remedial efforts, and ensuring compliance with government regulatory authorities. This job will drive the strategy and oversee the implementation of environmental practices at all locations, as well as work with site EHS staff to support plant operations. This role will report directly to the Vice President of Environmental, Health, and Safety and oversee two direct reports and contract personnel.

Essential Duties

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

● Create a future-state vision for environmental excellence and a well-defined,

multi-phased execution strategy.

● Responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s environmental initiatives including working alongside third party vendors and environmental counsel to achieve company objectives.

● Providing technical expertise, guidance, and leadership to implement applicable

programs, such as remediation, wastewater, regulated waste, SPCC, air emissions,

environmental sustainability strategies, etc.

● Have a general understanding of Federal and state environmental regulations and the ability to evaluate and interpret requirements as they apply to our operations.

● Partner across functions to ensure robust systems in place to meet regulatory and stakeholder expectations in the areas of environmental compliance.

● Evaluating and recommend options to improve air pollution control technology.

● Experience preparing permit applications and air emission calculations.

● Perform calculations to support reporting, permit applications and compliance

requirements, such as for air emissions, chemical inventories, and water discharges.

● Serve as resource to compliance, engineering, and operations staff.

● Working with project teams and plant personnel to ensure environmental compliance at new and existing facilities.

● Monitor and understand emerging trends in environmental programs and regulations; identify and communicate potential impacts; develop short- and long-term strategies to ensure adequate preparedness.

● Train, mentor, and develop EHS resources and leadership with respect to

environmental programs, requirements, and risks.

● Participate in incident investigations as a team member and subject matter expert to identify root causes and effective corrective actions.

● Partnering with Senior Leadership on potential acquisitions.

● Liaise with internal and external counsel and subject matter experts on environmental projects, matters, and regulations.


Qualifications Required

● Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering degree is required

● Post graduate degree, preferred.

● Professional Engineer, preferred.

● 15+ years environmental management experience, 10+ years management of people and engineering.

● Ability to travel overnight up to 50%.

● Problem-solving using standard engineering / scientific methods.

● Ability to effectively adapt to changing needs and priorities while maintaining a positive attitude with a focus on client success.

● Exceptional interpersonal skills that are leveraged to build relationships and trust with internal and external stakeholders.

● Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

● Commitment and engagement through a high level of work ethic and utilization of abilities for the best of the company.

● Must have excellent organizational, written and oral communication, listening and presentation skills including the ability to effectively present and discuss technical information and respond to questions from employees, government agency representatives, and customers.

● Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to establish trust and relationships.

● Demonstrated openness to change, flexibility, and adaptability.

● Ability to motivate teams and simultaneously manage multiple projects.

● Intermediate knowledge of Google Suite Office.

Base salary and/or rate of pay ranges listed are exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Individual compensation offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant candidate experience and skill, education, and/or qualifications.

Base Salary Range: $153,000-$195,500
