Director, Enterprise IT Service and DevOps Platform Enablement

Location

This position requires a strong on-site presence in San Diego, with an expectation of working in the office with some hybrid flexibility.

Position Summary

This role directs global platform engineering and core infrastructure, driving the strategic transition of the organization toward AI-integrated operations and intelligent infrastructure models. The Director governs Enterprise Compute and Storage, Database Administration (DBA), Software Asset Management (SAM), the ServiceNow platform, and the DevOps tools ecosystem. This leader drives operational excellence, continuous service availability, and global scalability while optimizing infrastructure cost structures. You will govern critical vendor agreements-including the Microsoft Enterprise Agreement (EA)-and oversee the core platforms that accelerate global engineering and business workflows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a global team of engineers to manage, maintain, and optimize all physical and virtual server compute platforms, SAN/NAS storage arrays, and backup/recovery solutions. Ensure high-quality performance and stability for all critical applications globally.
  • Directly manage the core operations staff in the data center region while overseeing senior technical leads in EMEA and APJ regions, establishing unified global operational standards for all managed domains. Define, build, and support the hiring plan and team structure for a global, multi-tiered infrastructure, tools, and data management function.
  • Facilitate the design, implementation, management, and communication of strategic goals related to infrastructure modernization, cloud migration strategies, and data services architecture on a global scale. Drive platform automation (IaC) utilizing Ansible, Terraform, and modern monitoring suites.
  • Drive the strategy, scalability, and lifecycle management of the enterprise DevOps toolchain, including the Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence), JFrog Artifactory, Rundeck, HashiCorp Vault, and core CI/CD integration utilities. Build and maintain secure, high-availability self-service capabilities that enforce robust security and compliance controls.
  • ServiceNow Governance & Software Asset Management (SAM): Govern and manage the ServiceNow platform to drive ITSM/ITIL alignment, platform customization, workflow automation, and external integrations. Establish and oversee the SAM practice within ServiceNow to track software usage, ensure license compliance, and optimize global software spend.
  • Directly manage key global vendor relationships, leading the negotiation and ongoing management of critical enterprise agreements-specifically including the Microsoft Enterprise Agreement (EA) as well as major infrastructure, cloud, and SaaS contracts to optimize cost structures.
  • Manage the Enterprise and DevOps DBA teams, ensuring effective database lifecycle management, security, and performance tuning across traditional and modern cloud data platforms. Drive the integration of DBA functions into CI/CD pipelines to promote infrastructure-as-code (IaC) principles and automate database provisioning.
  • Ensure all global infrastructure platforms and processes comply with relevant regulatory requirements, actively supporting internal and external audits by providing required documentation, evidence, and technical guidance on infrastructure controls.
  • Direct and optimize the global capital and operational budgets (CapEx/OpEx) for infrastructure, cloud environments, and software tooling platforms. Establish strict financial controls, proactive forecasting, and cost-efficiency strategies to ensure technology investments directly maximize enterprise value and support long-term growth.
  • Partner with Application Development, Security, and business stakeholders to meet performance SLAs, streamline application deployment pipelines, and ensure robust security compliance. Act as a key escalation point for P1/P2 incidents.

Requirements
  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing diverse, global technical teams, achieving goals, and driving operational results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present technical strategies, tool roadmaps, and compliance findings to senior executives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a solid understanding of modern IT infrastructure, developer tooling, and platform engineering.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment, adapt to change, and resolve conflicts.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex infrastructure and tooling migrations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting 24x7 IT operations environments, including incident response escalation

Experience/Education
  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent (advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred).
  • Typically has 18+ years of experience in IT, with at least 8+ years of experience in managing and leading global IT infrastructure or platform engineering teams.
  • 10+ years of experience in managing hybrid-cloud environments, bridging physical data center operations with public cloud governance.
  • Proven experience managing enterprise DevOps platforms (Atlassian suite, Rundeck, Vault, etc.) and implementing modern automation and monitoring tools (Ansible, Terraform, Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Demonstrated experience managing the ServiceNow platform and establishing Software Asset Management (SAM) practices for enterprise-scale software portfolios.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance requirements (SOX, HIPAA) and a deep understanding of ITIL frameworks and best practices.
  • Preferred Certifications: ITIL, ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) or Implementation Specialist, Cloud Architect certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP), and relevant Agile/DevOps certifications.
