Purpose:

We are currently recruiting for a Director, Engineering - Mining, Minerals and Metals. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

As the Senior Director of Engineering at Worley, a global professional services company in energy, chemicals, and resources, you will play a pivotal role in delivering sustainable change. Directing a diverse team of engineering professionals your primary purpose is to provide strategic engineering oversight across multiple disciplines, ensuring compliance with Worley's requirements and commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement. You will drive operational efforts within a complex and highly specialized field, managing work through others while embodying our ethos of delivering sustainable change.

Responsibilities:

Team Management and Development:
  • Manage a team of professionals in various engineering disciplines, fostering their growth and aligning their efforts with Worley's sustainability goals.
  • Provide ongoing development and mentoring to team members, cultivating a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Assign team members to projects that contribute to our aspiration of being a global authority in sustainability solutions.

Business Development Support:
  • Facilitate the maintenance of personal profiles and resumes to showcase our capabilities in sustainability-related projects.
  • Strategically address future customer capability requirements, ensuring alignment with Worley's commitment to a sustainable world.
  • Foster positive relationships with external parties, contributing to Worley's role as a straight-talking partner for sustainable transformation.

Budgeting and Engineering Operations:
  • Participate in budgeting and manage engineering operations to align with our goal of deriving 75 percent of revenue from sustainability-related projects by FY26.
  • Control engineering staffing levels and organizational structure in support of sustainability initiatives.
  • Administer engineering software licensing and costs, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently to sustainable projects.
  • Create and maintain engineering guidelines, ensuring adherence by team members, and fostering Worley's commitment to innovation and sustainability.

Technical Competency and Quality Programs:
  • Own and oversee engineering technical competency and quality programs, emphasizing adherence to sustainable engineering practices.
  • Support global standardization of equipment specifications, drawings, and document templates with a focus on sustainability.
  • Conduct discipline checking and technical peer reviews, ensuring alignment with Worley's commitment to delivering sustainable change.

Project Requirements and Execution:
  • Facilitate meeting project requirements using engineering guidelines and resources allocated to projects, with a keen eye on sustainability.
  • Participate in project execution strategy and planning, driving innovative solutions and technology advances in line with Worley's plans to be recognized globally as an authority in sustainability solutions.
  • Work with Project Management Teams to address issues, staffing requirements, scope changes, and other events affecting project completion and profitability, reviewing and authorizing work done by Discipline Managers.


What you will bring:
Technical and Industry Experience:
  • Leadership and Project Execution: Formal training in management and project execution, demonstrating a track record of successfully directing engineering teams. Active licensure with a local engineering governing body where required by law, highlighting a commitment to professional standards and ethical practices. Proven ability to make sound engineering management judgements under the general direction of the Location Manager.
  • Cross-discipline Expertise: Strong understanding of cross-discipline work, interfaces, and sequencing, showcasing expertise in integrating diverse engineering practices towards sustainable outcomes. Well-versed in engineering governance, project execution, and fiscal management, with a focus on delivering projects that align with Worley's sustainability goals.
  • Experience and Expertise: Senior/Director level experience relevant discipline and multi-discipline experience, demonstrating a deep understanding of engineering principles and practices. Strong experience in project leadership, overseeing and ensuring the success of complex engineering projects. Ideally, experience as a Discipline Manager, showcasing the ability to effectively manage and develop engineering teams.
  • Strategic Planning and Budgeting: Skilled in estimating project costs, writing proposal content, and adept at budgeting and cost control. Proven experience in participating in budgeting processes and managing engineering operations to align with sustainability goals.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Management: Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex engineering proposals and reports to senior-level management. Proven ability to effectively communicate and negotiate with external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Leadership: Assume hands-on management and implementation of all relevant company HSE requirements, showcasing a commitment to personal well-being and a proactive approach to continuously improving health, safety, and environmental performance. Drive Safe and Sustainable engineering outcomes throughout the asset lifecycle via the application of Sustainable Engineering and Lifecycle (SEAL) principles.
  • Results-oriented and Analytical: Achieve results set by self and others, meet timelines, and push to achieve stretch goals. Demonstrate enthusiasm, persistence, and tenacity, breaking down work into executable tasks and ensuring it is "right the first time." Comfortable dealing with new concepts and complexity, examining problems carefully and thoroughly, and understanding their interdependencies.
