Responsibilities

Related Digital is seeking a Director, Design Engineering for its development pipeline. This role owns the full design lifecycle for hyperscale and AI-ready data center campuses - from project basis of design through construction document delivery. The Director partners closely with Development, Construction, Sales, Operations and hyperscale clients to ensure designs are delivered on schedule, on budget, and built to Related Digital's performance and sustainability standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a portfolio of active design projects simultaneously across multiple markets
  • Select, contract, and manage external AOR, MEP, civil, and structural consultants; hold them accountable to scope, schedule, and quality
  • Drive design-phase cost control through value engineering, constructability reviews, and close coordination with Preconstruction
  • Collaborate with Site Selection and Development on site feasibility, master planning, and early-stage design decisions
  • Partner with Construction on design-to-build handoffs, RFI resolution, and field coordination
  • Integrate customer technical requirements into base building designs; serve as design point of contact for hyperscale clients
  • Coordinate and manage design reviews and updates with design team and hyperscale clients
  • Understand and evolve basis-of-design with full Engineering team for Related Digital program
  • Develop and maintain design standards, templates, and specifications to enable repeatable, scalable delivery across markets
  • Lead and develop a team of internal and external design managers and coordinators

  • Experience managing external design consultants across multiple disciplines and concurrent projects
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain prototype/standard designs at scale
  • Familiarity with LEED, Uptime Institute Tier standards, and applicable building codes
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related field; PE or RA licensure preferred
  • Based in or willing to relocate to Dallas TX or New York NY
