Role Overview
BMO is looking for a Director, Data & AI to lead the strategy, delivery, and adoption of data and artificial intelligence capabilities across Commercial Banking Technology. This role plays a critical part in enabling data‑driven decision‑making, modern analytics, and responsible AI solutions that improve customer experience, operational efficiency, and risk management.
The Director will work closely with business, technology, and risk partners to translate business priorities into scalable, secure, and compliant data and AI solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
Data & AI Strategy

  • Define and execute the Data & AI strategy for Commercial Banking in alignment with enterprise technology and data priorities.

  • Identify high‑value analytics and AI use cases that drive measurable business outcomes.


Delivery & Technology Leadership

  • Lead the design and delivery of modern data platforms, analytics solutions, and AI/ML capabilities.

  • Oversee cloud‑based data architectures, data pipelines, reporting, and AI‑enabled services.

  • Ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, and production‑ready.


People & Portfolio Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and lead high‑performing teams across data engineering, analytics, and AI.

  • Manage delivery portfolios, priorities, and dependencies across multiple initiatives.

  • Governance, Risk & Responsible AI

  • Ensure strong data governance, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.

  • Champion responsible AI practices, including transparency, explainability, and model risk management.

  • Partner with Risk, Compliance, and Legal teams to ensure solutions meet regulatory expectations.


Stakeholder & Partner Engagement

  • Collaborate with senior business and technology leaders to shape roadmaps and investment decisions.

  • Manage strategic vendor and partner relationships, including cloud and analytics providers.



Qualifications & Experience:

Required
- 10+ years of experience in data, analytics, or AI, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.         

- Proven experience delivering enterprise‑scale data platforms and advanced analytics solutions.
- Strong knowledge of modern data architectures, cloud platforms, and AI/ML concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large technical teams and influence senior stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and execution skills.

Preferred
- Experience in banking, financial services, or other highly regulated industries.
- Exposure to AI use cases such as intelligent automation, customer analytics, or fraud and risk analytics.
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks and regulatory requirements.

Salary:

$132,600.00 - $231,000.00

Pay Type:

Salaried

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
