General Definition of WorkThe director of custodial services, under minimal supervision, performs senior-level work with considerable decision-making discretion overseeing the cleaning program for the district's property portfolio and ensures district schools and sites are maintained effectively and in compliance with all applicable federal, state, local laws, and regulations. Employee performs advanced and supervisory work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures related to district custodial services under the direction of the Executive Director of Building Services.

Place of WorkThe normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Lead, manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned programs/staff in the district
- Implement and manage the solid waste and recycling program for the school system
- Lead and supervise campus grounds and custodial staff, ensuring coverage, accountability, and quality performance
- Conduct regular inspections to maintain a clean, safe, and visually appealing campus environment in accordance with safety and health requirements
- Ensure compliance with all safety, chemical handling, and environmental regulations
- Coordinate support for facility use, emergencies, and seasonal operations
- Use data and work order systems to track performance and drive continuous improvement
- Promote a culture of customer service, teamwork, and pride in the campus appearance
- Establish an efficient custodial organization which focuses on quality customer service with timely response and resolution
- Assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor workflow, review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures
- Conduct periodic site visits to monitor quality control, as well as safety and sanitary compliance
- Ensure all sites are clean, safe, and up to code in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations
- Continually evaluate custodial equipment and procedures to minimize injuries
- Design and implement training programs for custodial staff; formulate, develop, and revise custodial handbooks, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Complete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptly
- Participate in professional development workshops and leadership training
- Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations
- Facilitate the development of the department's improvement plan
- Perform related work as assigned or required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities- Comprehensive in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of public school system building/facility requirements
- Skilled in negotiating and managing relationships with vendors
- Skilled in safety protocols, emergency procedures, and how to use personal protective equipment (PPE) to avoid accidents
- Skilled in operating different types of cleaning equipment, such as floor scrubbers, vacuums, and carpet extractors
- Ability to maintain professional and emotional control under stress
- Ability to reflect appropriate response to situations, while maintaining a professional and personal demeanor
- Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs
- Ability to develop, monitor, and implement a fiscally sound budget

Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree required
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience managerial level position preferred
- Equivalent combination of experience and education
- Special Requirements
- Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
- Serve as essential personnel and in an on-call capacity for all urgent, after-hours emergencies, including natural disasters
