JOB TITLE: Director, Copywriting and Editorial

LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid; 3 days in office )

REPORTS TO: Chief Marketing Officer

About the Role

We are hiring a Director, Copywriting & Editorial to lead and elevate the written voice of Sunbit across every consumer and business touchpoint. This is a senior creative role that sits at the heart of our marketing organization, partnering closely with our Director of Brand Creative (design) to ensure our messaging and visual identity work in lockstep.

Reporting to the CMO, you will own the full editorial function: from brand messaging architecture and tone of voice to campaign copy, digital content, scripts, and executive communications. As a leader in the continued evolution of our brand tone and voice, your work will shape how millions of consumers and thousands of merchant partners experience and connect with Sunbit as we scale nationally.

Operating in the fintech space means the bar for precision is high. Attention to detail is essential: every word we put into the world must be consistent, clear, and compliant. This role is ideal for a senior writer and creative leader who understands that rigorous editorial standards and compelling storytelling are not in tension, but are two sides of the same coin.

Key Responsibilities

Messaging Strategy & Brand Voice

  • Own and evolve Sunbit's messaging hierarchy, brand voice, and tone of voice guidelines across consumer and merchant audiences.
  • Lead the continued evolution of our brand tone and voice, ensuring it remains distinctive, consistent, and fit for purpose as the company grows.
  • Develop clear, compelling positioning frameworks that translate complex fintech offerings into accessible, human language.
  • Partner with Brand Creative to ensure copy and design are developed in tandem, with consistent narrative and visual cohesion.
  • Serve as the editorial authority across the marketing org, upholding consistency, quality, and compliance in all outbound communications, with a meticulous eye for detail given the regulatory standards of operating in the fintech space.

Campaign & Content Copywriting

  • Write and direct copy for integrated marketing campaigns across paid media, OOH, digital, email, CRM, and social.
  • Lead content development for the website, landing pages, and product marketing materials.
  • Produce and oversee blog content, thought leadership pieces, and editorial content that supports SEO and brand authority.
  • Write and refine scripts for video, broadcast, and audio formats, collaborating with creative and production partners.

Executive & Investor Communications

  • Develop copy for investor decks, board presentations, and executive narratives in partnership with leadership.
  • Support PR and communications initiatives with press materials, talking points, and spokesperson messaging.
  • Craft internal communications that bring company strategy, brand, and culture to life for employees.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Editorial Leadership

  • Act as a key creative partner to demand gen, CRM, partner marketing, and product teams, ensuring copy needs are met with speed and quality.
  • Build and maintain editorial processes, content calendars, and copy review workflows.
  • Hire, mentor, and manage copywriting talent (in-house and freelance) as the function scales.
  • Establish and govern a centralized content library, ensuring approved messaging is accessible and up to date.

Requirements

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years of copywriting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead creative role, ideally in-house at a consumer brand, fintech, or high-growth company.
  • A versatile, world-class writer with a portfolio that demonstrates range: brand messaging and campaign copy, long-form content, scripts, and executive communications.
  • Deep expertise in developing messaging hierarchies, brand voice guidelines, and positioning frameworks from the ground up.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with design, brand, and marketing teams in a fast-moving environment without sacrificing quality.
  • Strong editorial instincts and the ability to give clear, constructive creative direction to other writers and agency partners.
  • Exceptional attention to detail. In a regulated industry, consistency and compliance are non-negotiable, and you hold yourself and your team to that standard.
  • Experience writing for regulated or complex industries where clarity, accuracy, and trust are paramount; fintech or consumer financial services experience is a strong plus.
  • Exceptional communication skills and executive presence, including comfort presenting creative rationale to senior leadership.

How We Pay:

  • We believe in paying fairly and equitably based on a number of factors including but not limited to previous experience, relevant work history, interview performance, geographical location, internal equity, and expected level of ownership.
  • We are targeting a base salary of $155,000 - $195,000 per year for this role
  • This role will also be granted company equity via stock options
