Full Job Description
THE OPPORTUNITY

STACK Infrastructure is one of the fastest growing hyperscale data center platforms in North America, and the Special Projects team sits at the center of our most complex and strategically critical work. As Director, Special Projects, you will lead the end-to-end delivery of high-stakes tenant improvement and modernization programs, including standalone data hall fitouts, integrated fitout projects executed alongside live base-build construction, and retrofits of existing facilities to support tenant changes and equipment modernization.

This is a highly visible, cross-functional leadership role. You will be the single point of accountability for project delivery, owning client relationships, financial performance, contractor management, and schedule outcomes across a dynamic portfolio. You will work alongside STACK's construction, operations, finance, and solutions engineering teams, and your success will directly shape the experience of some of the world's largest technology and enterprise clients.

This role offers meaningful autonomy, genuine executive visibility, and the opportunity to build and refine the operating model for a team whose mandate is still expanding. If you are energized by complexity, driven by client outcomes, and want to do the most interesting work in the data center industry, this is the role.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

Project Delivery Leadership
  • Own full project lifecycle for a diverse portfolio: standalone fitouts, integrated fitout projects coordinated with base-build construction teams, and retrofits of existing data center facilities for tenant changes and equipment modernization.
  • Serve as the primary client interface, managing expectations, communicating status proactively, and resolving issues before they become escalations.
  • Drive alignment across construction, operations, finance, and solutions engineering to ensure projects land on time, on budget, and to specification.

Financial Accountability
  • Own project budgets end to end, from initial estimate through final closeout.
  • Lead bid management and contract negotiations with contractors, vendors, and consultants.
  • Build and maintain rigorous financial reporting that gives leadership clear line-of-sight into project health.

Team & Vendor Management
  • Manage and develop a team of onsite STACK Delivery Project Managers, maintaining alignment with STACK's four pillars of project management: Budget, Quality, Schedule, and Safety.
  • Build and steward the vendor community: qualification, onboarding, performance management, and long-term relationship development.
  • Roll up your sleeves when needed: you are comfortable managing projects directly, not just through a team.

Process & Continuous Improvement
  • Build upon existing processes and reporting frameworks, creating a controlled and deliberate approach to project execution.
  • Identify root causes when issues arise and drive creative, practical solutions.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the Special Projects operating model as the team's mandate grows.

THE DETAILS

  • Preferred Location: Remote or based at a STACK data center facility
  • Travel: Up to 25%
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must pass comprehensive background screening
  • Reports to: VP, Special Projects

MUST-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent hands-on experience in construction, engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience leading data center projects: You have seen the full range of complexity and know how to navigate it.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering large-scale projects on time and on budget in a mission-critical environment.
  • Experience managing multi-site, multi-project programs with a team of project managers.
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong budget management and project financial acumen.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills: You can speak fluently with hyperscale clients, enterprise clients, field teams, and C-suite stakeholders alike.
  • High organizational discipline and the ability to manage competing priorities without losing focus.
  • Collaborative by instinct: A genuine team player who builds trust across functions.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, OneNote).

THIS MIGHT BE RIGHT FOR YOU IF:

  • You are a strong communicator, you are persuasive and clear, blending analytics with experience in decision-making.
  • You do not get flustered easily. You can juggle multiple priorities while balancing urgent requests with shifting timelines and deliverables.
  • You are a team builder. You take the time to understand and develop the strengths of your resources while formulating long-term plans for the growth and success of the team.
  • You are naturally curious and driven toward continual improvement. While you celebrate your successes, you take time to review and analyze campaigns for future learning.

WHY STACK?

  • We offer a competitive compensation package with strong benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401K program, flexible spending accounts - even a cell phone subsidy.
  • We foster a culture of appreciation, including peer-to-peer recognition and rewards programs.
  • Fun is part of our DNA, with events, game nights, happy hours, and barbecues.
  • We're growing - this is a great time to join and make an impact!
