BDO Canada is looking for a Director, Construction Advisory & Dispute Services with experience in delay analysis and/or loss quantification on matters involving construction delays to join the Advisory team. The successful candidate will own the following responsibilities:
- Responsible for managing projects and monitoring the quality of work performed on construction related to dispute and advisory engagements, including matters related to construction delay, lost productivity, time impact studies, project scheduling, project cost assessment, arising in a litigation context, insurance claims, and proactive advisory services
- Effectively lead the planning and execution of construction claims related services, including compiling financial data, performing analysis and preparing recommendations in matters of dispute management, dispute avoidance and project planning & controls
- Correspondence with clients, contractors, project owners, developers, lawyers, construction project teams, insurance adjusters, and internal contacts to discuss file issues and present our findings
- Develop and maintain client relationships at the highest level, including accountability for most operational aspects of client engagement
- Attend client sites to perform work (when and where required)
- Attract and retain top talent to support a sustainable and growing practice
- Play an integral role in our talent development priority through coaching, mentoring and training junior staff; preparing and delivering internal technical training programs; strategically assigning work opportunities; conducting project/team performance reviews and providing continuous feedback on individual performance
- Actively participate and lead initiatives in business development activities within the global BDO network and externally in the marketplace

Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge
- Degree-level education in Engineering, Construction Management or Quantity Surveying related field (Relevant Masters/Post Graduate level university education would be an asset)
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in construction claims advisory and disputes resolution, in particular demonstrated expertise in completing, leading and/or managing construction delay engagements, including writing expert reports. Provision of testimony would be considered an asset
- Strong analytical, construction project management, scheduling skills, including expert level knowledge of industry specific tools, such as Primavera, MS Project
- Strong knowledge of consulting and expert witness roles in the context of construction claims advisory and disputes
- PQS/MRICS qualified or equivalent certification would be an asset
- Previous experience working on various construction contract types with strong contract administration and quantity surveying skills is desirable
- Experience in damage quantification focused on contractual claims, disputes and litigation would be an asset
- Detail oriented, excellent organizational skills, self-driven and highly motivated to be a leader
- The ability and willingness to travel within Canada and internationally, if the need arises
- Bilingual in English and French is required due to the frequent and complex contact with our English-speaking partners and clients in Quebec and outside of Quebec, and the need to draft documents in English, knowledge of English is essential for this position
