Description

We are looking for a Director, Compensation & Benefits to join our team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This role will play a critical role in designing, leading, and implementing executive and enterprise-wide compensation and benefits strategies. This individual must thrive in a lean, fast-moving environment and be comfortable with ambiguity and building from scratch. You'll lead efforts across compensation design, equity plans, board prep, and global payroll integration, while supporting and influencing the strategic direction of the total rewards function.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and administration of compensation and benefits programs, including executive compensation, short- and long-term incentive plans, equity plans, and health & welfare benefits.
  • Partner closely with senior leadership and the Board on executive compensation matters, including proxy support, board committee prep, and board presentations.
  • Oversee a small, high-impact team (initially 2 direct reports); mentor and build organizational capabilities.
  • Contribute to global payroll integration efforts across different systems.
  • Lead merit and incentive planning processes, including annual planning cycles and end-of-year reviews.
  • Provide thought leadership on compensation structures, job architecture, internal equity, and market competitiveness.
  • Support M& A integration efforts by aligning compensation philosophies and harmonizing legacy programs.
  • Develop data-driven reporting and analytics to inform decision-making at the highest levels.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Global VP of Total Rewards and be groomed as a succession candidate for the VP role.


Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in compensation & benefits; minimum 3+ years in a leadership capacity
  • Deep knowledge of executive compensation, proxy preparation, equity programs, incentive planning (STI/LTI), and US health & welfare benefits
  • Strong experience with Excel and compensation analytics
  • Comfortable working in a global, matrixed environment; able to scale programs across regions and platforms
  • Experience supporting or presenting to boards and compensation committees
  • Ability to work strategically while remaining hands-on in building programs and processes
  • Strong interpersonal skills, cultural awareness, and ability to manage ambiguity and change
  • Start-up, M& A, or high-growth experience is a plus
  • Global experience and familiarity with CLAs or tariffs is a plus
