Job Summary

Directs Commercial Real Estate (CRE) activities within the Community Bank, most often serving as an advisor and subject matter expert to assist Commercial Relationship Managers and Market Executives in serving customers in this segment. Adheres to credit strategies and pricing strategies, among others, ensuring soundness, diversification, liquidity and maximum earnings for the line of business. Supports and advises on loan structuring and approval, underwriting, and other CRE related activities in coordination with specific support teams and subject matter experts. Furthermore, will directly manage CRE relationships according to prescribed engagement parameters with the expectation to collaborate with cross-fucntional teams to deliver the full services of the bank (i.e. Wealth Services, treasury, wholesales, etc.).

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works with Community leadership and commercial bankers to develop and lead the execution of effective strategies to capture new commercial real estate business in the Community markets, emphasizing relationships where exposure is greater than $2.5mm and equity is deemed non-institutional. Ensures local strategy and goals are aligned with and support both the Community strategies and goals. Consults with peers within the local market to ensure synergy at all levels and with all stakeholders regarding risk, operational efficiency and effectiveness, and resources. Collaborates with local bank leadership to establish strategic plans for the Community CRE business, and leads the team to ensure cost effective, efficient and successful deployment of those plans.
  • Identifies local market opportunities (non-institutional equity) that are consistent with the strategy of the business and takes appropriate action to capitalize on those opportunities. Determines and develops the best portfolio of solutions, structuring, products, and services to counter competitors' strategies and respond to client needs. Partners with the local banking teams and Credit Risk Management teams to ensure the appropriate level of risk assessments and analysis is being performed on all potential commercial real estate business activities, and that risks identified are being properly mitigated in accordance with standard operating procedures. Works with local bankers on the loan request process through the approval processes, including interaction with the Commercial Real Estate credit team and the preparation & distribution of indicative term sheets.
  • As appropriate, directly manage certain CRE opportunities and relationships to include post-closing portfolio management and relationship development and expansion. Determination of direct management will be considered for review and decisioning as appropriate, but most often where exposure exceeds $7.5mm
  • Continues to manage existing book of CRE relationships, utilizing existing support teams, to assist in the portfolio management and relationship expansion of those relationships.
  • Leverages experience and network to assist local market leadership in developing go-to-market CRE strategies, participating in customer and prospect meeting, informing local market leadership of emerging risks and trends in the CRE business, and helping establish Center of Influence ("COI") relationships that will serve as strategic, long-term sources of referrals for quality real estate banking opportunities
  • Optimizes execution and results. Uses the advantage of company size, internal and external resources, and talent to achieve success. Develops and communicates logical, convincing justifications, including lessons learned, that build commitment and support for perspectives and initiatives. Assists Commercial Real Estate credit teams with examination preparation activites, discussions, and presentations, as needed.

Serves as a market liaison ensuring the prompt and accurate dissemination of information and instruction needed to act in accordance with policies and procedures. Serves as a credible spokesperson, representative, and sponsor of the company to local communities within the market.
  • As applicable, manages the annual performance management and merit processes for direct and indirect reports. Coaches and develops team members and builds a work environment where team members are engaged and feel a positive sense of achievement about their role in the company. Works closely with Human Resources regarding employee relations, compensation, training, posting and filling vacant positions and other Human Resources related matters.
  • Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.

Minimum Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Risk, Business Administration or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Minimum Experience:
  • Ten (10) years of commercial real estate and credit experience in loan structuring and approval, credit analysis, underwriting, portfolio management and developing forecasts of portfolio trends, calling on commercial real estate companies; managing large portfolios of complex credit relationships; and experience managing CRE teams.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Skill managing successful relationships with senior executives, regulators, key stakeholders and customers
  • Expert knowledge of loan portfolio analysis and credit review tools and their applications
  • Expert knowledge of federal and state credit regulations
