OVERVIEW

The Director, Communications and Stakeholder Relations provides leadership and operational direction to the Communications team on all aspects of internal and external communications, brand management, media relations, stakeholder engagement, government relations, community engagement/partnership and social media presence. This role will include exploration and execution of opportunities for future enhanced communications partnerships.

ROLE
  • Lead the development and execution of strategic communications, marketing, and stakeholder engagement plans that support organizational priorities
  • Develop and implement crisis communications strategies to protect the organization's reputation and maintain public trust
  • Provide leadership for internal and external communications, including websites, publications, social media, and executive messaging
  • Develop communication plans for major organizational initiatives and oversee content development, approvals, and publication
  • Advise and support the President & CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and Board on communications, stakeholder engagement, and public relations strategies
  • Build and strengthen relationships with community partners, government, healthcare stakeholders, media, and external organizations
  • Lead media relations, public announcements, events, and responses to media inquiries while enhancing the organization's public profile
  • Champion inclusion, diversity, equity, and anti-racism initiatives while promoting employee engagement and organizational culture
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management to the Communications team, including oversight of vendors and departmental resources
  • Serve as a strategic leader and change agent who promotes the organization's vision, values, and continuous improvement initiatives


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, business or related field required
  • Master's degree in related field is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in a not-for-profit or healthcare related sector required
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a unionized environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in communications, marketing, media relations, issues management, and publications
  • Experience working effectively with the media, the community and other key stakeholder groups
  • Strong knowledge of Muskoka area an asset
  • Knowledge of current and emerging communications issues and trends
  • Experience communicating using a variety of electronic and social media

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Location: Multi-Site, working on site at both the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) located in Bracebridge and Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) located in Huntsville. Applicants must reside within 125km of one of our hospital campuses or be willing to relocate prior to starting. *Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis

Hours of Work: Regular hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8 am - 4 pm. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement.

Duration of Temporary Assignment: Temporary Full-Time for 6 months with a possibility of extension
