Full Job Description

Position Summary: The Director, Commercial Learning & Development provides strategic and operational leadership for Commercial Learning & Development across a geographically dispersed Commercial organization. This role is responsible for establishing and executing the commercial learning strategy, capability roadmap, governance framework, and development priorities that strengthen organizational capability and support business performance. As the leader of a growing function, the Director serves as both a strategic leader and hands-on contributor. The role leads a team while actively partnering with Commercial Leadership, Sales Leadership, Human Resources, Marketing, and Talent leaders to design, implement, and continuously improve learning and capability-building solutions. The Director is responsible for translating business priorities into scalable development strategies that improve onboarding, sales effectiveness, leadership capability, and workforce readiness across the Commercial organization.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $160,000 - 170,000 annually plus 20% AIP eligibility. The actual compensation offered may vary based on job related factors such as experience, skills, education and location. The ideal candidate will reside in the east coast of the US.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Commercial Learning & Development function, establishing the strategy, governance, priorities, capability roadmap, and operating model aligned with Commercial business objectives and enterprise talent strategy.

  • Develop and execute scalable learning and capability-building solutions across the commercial teammate lifecycle, including onboarding, sales effectiveness, product knowledge, customer engagement, leadership development, and continuous learning.

  • Assess organizational capability needs and partner with Commercial, Sales, Human Resources, and Talent leaders to identify performance gaps and implement development solutions that drive business results.

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Commercial Learning & Development team while directly contributing to key initiatives, strategic projects, program design, and capability-building efforts in a build-and-scale environment.

  • Oversee the design, implementation, delivery, and continuous improvement of commercial learning programs, structured learning pathways, onboarding experiences, certification frameworks, and leadership development initiatives.

  • Establish learning governance, standards, measurement frameworks, and operating practices that drive consistency, scalability, learner engagement, and measurable business impact.

  • Manage the Commercial Learning & Development portfolio, budget, vendor relationships, technologies, and resource investments to maximize organizational effectiveness and return on investment.

  • Utilize learning analytics, capability assessments, and business performance metrics to evaluate program effectiveness, inform strategic priorities, and guide future investments.

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to Commercial Leadership, Sales Leadership, Human Resources, Marketing, and Talent leaders on workforce capability, learning strategy, leadership development, and organizational effectiveness.

  • Drive adoption of learning initiatives, foster a culture of continuous development, and promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and talent development across the Commercial organization.

Qualifying Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Learning & Development, Marketing, Communications, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in Learning & Development, Sales Enablement, Talent Development, Commercial Excellence, Organizational Development, or related disciplines.

  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams, strategic initiatives, budgets, and organizational development programs.

  • Demonstrated success leading a learning, capability-building, sales enablement, or talent-development function, including responsibility for strategy, execution, governance, and measurable business outcomes.

  • Experience developing and implementing commercial learning strategies, onboarding programs, sales capability initiatives, leadership development programs, and structured learning pathways within complex organizations.

  • Proven ability to assess organizational capability needs and translate business priorities into scalable development solutions while balancing strategic leadership with hands-on execution.

  • Experience managing budgets, vendor partnerships, learning technologies, analytics platforms, and performance measurement frameworks.

  • Strong understanding of commercial organizations, sales processes, customer engagement strategies, sales effectiveness, and capability development practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders, build cross-functional partnerships, and drive organizational change across complex business environments.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, facilitation, stakeholder management, project management, change leadership, and business acumen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting large, geographically dispersed, multi-site, or global employee populations.

  • Experience within healthcare, medical distribution, manufacturing, sales, or another complex commercial environment.

  • Experience with learning management systems, talent technologies, learning analytics, and modern learning methodologies.

  • Experience building or transforming learning, sales enablement, or capability-development functions.

Physical Demands:

  • Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker must have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Ability to lift to 15 lbs. independently not to exceed 50 lbs. without help.
