Summary:

The Director, Clinical & Nursing Research Operations is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, implementation, and evaluation of research operations and evidence-based practice initiatives across Nursing, Clinical Professionals, and Population Health. This role establishes and advances the infrastructure needed to support clinical inquiry, research design, regulatory compliance, grant development, scholarly dissemination, and translation of evidence into practice to improve patient, family, workforce, and organizational outcomes. The Director collaborates with the Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute, Nursing leadership, clinical and operational leaders, Population Health, academic partners, and interdisciplinary teams to promote a culture of scientific inquiry and evidence-based decision making.

Responsibilities:

1. Provides strategic leadership for clinical and nursing research operations, evidence-based practice, and clinical inquiry across Nursing, Clinical Professionals, and Population Health.
2. Develops, implements, and evaluates research infrastructure, programs, processes, and workflows that support scientific inquiry, innovation, and evidence translation into practice.
3. Partners with nursing, clinical, operational, provider, and population health leaders to establish research priorities aligned with organizational strategic goals and desired patient, family, workforce, and community outcomes.
4. Oversee research operations, including study development, regulatory compliance, IRB support, data management, project oversight, and maintenance of research records.
5. Promotes a culture of scientific inquiry by mentoring nurses, clinical professionals, and leaders in the development, conduct, dissemination, and application of research and evidence-based practice projects.
6. Leads efforts to secure internal and external funding through grant development, proposal support, and collaboration with research and academic partners.
7. Advances the dissemination of scholarly work through publications, presentations, professional conferences, and other knowledge-sharing opportunities.
8. Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with the Research Institute, academic institutions, professional organizations, and community partners to expand research opportunities and capabilities.
9. Monitors, measures, and reports research, evidence-based practice, and scholarly activity outcomes to demonstrate impact and support continuous improvement.
10. Supervises, develops, and evaluates assigned staff while ensuring effective resource allocation, budget management, and achievement of departmental goals.

Technical Expertise

1. Expertise in nursing research, evidence-based practice, clinical inquiry, and research program leadership.
2. Knowledge of research methodologies, study design, research ethics, regulatory requirements, and IRB processes.
3. Experience developing and implementing research infrastructure, operations, and evidence-based practice frameworks.
4. Ability to mentor clinicians and leaders in research development, evidence translation, scholarly dissemination, and publication.
5. Experience managing research portfolios, projects, program outcomes, and operational metrics.
6. Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary clinical, operational, academic, and research leaders to advance strategic priorities.
7. Knowledge of Magnet®, professional practice models, accreditation standards, quality improvement methodologies, and grant development preferred.
8. Strong leadership, communication, relationship management, project management, change management, and data management skills.

Education and Experience

1. Education: PhD required. Nursing degree required.
2. Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio required.
3. Certification: Board Certification in Nursing or related field required within 2 years of employment.
4. Years of experience: Eight (8) years of relevant experience required.
5. Years of experience supervising: Five (5) years of leadership capacity experience required.
