About the Role

The Director of Business Development will be a strategic operator who partners closely with both internal partner teams and strategic partners to drive carrier and fintech partnerships and programs. The role will focus on enhancing and optimizing an existing portfolio of partners, and identifying, pursuing, and developing new ones to drive value for the carrier side of our marketplace, and thoughtfully monetize via various fintech programs. We're looking for someone who can set a vision and understand problems for this part of the business from 30,000 feet as well as dive deep into the details. This role will work across multiple functions and teams in support of driving stronger business results.

What the Candidate Will Do
  • Strategic Thought Leadership: Play a key partner role in defining and making decisions about the strategic direction of the carrier side of the marketplace. You will be expected to help develop and articulate a compelling competitive strategy, defining the unique value we bring with our technology and operating model, and help to communicate the strategy.
  • Program and Partnership Development: Develop an ecosystem strategy, pipeline of partners, and selectively pursue, close, implement, and develop partners to achieve team and company objectives.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Serve as connective tissue as you tackle problems that span the entire organization. Align stakeholders around tradeoffs, priorities, and resource allocation. Shape new initiatives with measurable ROI.
  • Lead by Example: Be truth-seeking with data, set a high bar for the team to think boldly and creatively, and then to funnel that energy into concrete processes and execution plans.

Basic Qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree and 10+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience: 10+ years of business development, strategic partnership, or equivalent experience (e.g., strategic account management, program management); Some high-growth operations or startup experience is strongly preferred. If you think your background brings something to the table, we want to hear from you!
  • Logistics Experience: Uber Freight is in the business of moving things from Point A to Point B across a variety of modes and geographies. First-hand experience knowing how freight moves, the challenges shippers and carriers face, and the basics of 3PL and 4PL dynamics will allow you to drive impact faster.
  • Executive Presence: Ability to influence C-level stakeholders with data-driven storytelling and structured recommendations.
  • Cross-Functional Impact: Demonstrated ability to align Sales, Finance, Product, and Operations around common goals.
  • Technical Fluency: Proficiency in Google Sheets and Google Slides; familiarity with various AI and analytics tools a plus, including Google Gemini and SQL.
  • Be incredibly truth-seeking with information, set a high bar for the team to think boldly and creatively, communicate frequently and with high quality; then funnel that energy into concrete processes and execution plans
  • Explorer - the ability to self-serve, investigate and get the data we require will make you much more effective in this role. A self-starter attitude is a must!
