What is the Opportunity?The Director, Business Development will lead Aecon's expansion in the United States, driving growth across the heavy civil infrastructure sector. This role is accountable for building and executing pursuit strategies to secure large-scale, complex projects through early positioning, strategic partnerships, and disciplined capture management.
What You'll Do Here:- Lead the development and execution of U.S. market growth strategy, targeting priority heavy civil sectors including bridges, highways, transit systems, and water infrastructure.
- Identify, shape, and pursue major infrastructure opportunities, focusing on $300M-$2B+ projects.
- Direct market research efforts to identify emerging trends, competitive threats, and regulatory shifts in the U.S. infrastructure sector.
- Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activities.
- Identify, evaluate, and negotiate strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and alliances that align with Aecon's long-term growth objectives.
- Coordinate with marketing, estimating, legal, operations, and engineering teams to ensure cohesive pursuit strategies and project delivery alignment.
- Oversee capture planning for major pursuits, including win strategies, competitive positioning, and client engagement plans.
- Represent Aecon at high-level industry forums, government briefings, and strategic stakeholder meetings to elevate brand presence and influence.
What You Bring to the Team:- Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or related field (MBA preferred).
- Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in business development, including leadership roles within heavy civil infrastructure.
- Ability to translate market insights into actionable growth strategies and measurable outcomes.
- Strong understanding of capital markets, project finance, and commercial structuring in large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Ability to represent Aecon at the highest levels with professionalism, credibility, and strategic insight.
- Has a strong network and experience in the U.S. infrastructure market.
- Demonstrated experience successfully managing the competing objectives of many external and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to deal with uncertainty, changing and multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Willingness to travel across the U.S. and to Canada as required.
- Experience in Alternative delivery model projects.
