Our Newest Opportunity: The Director, Benefits Compliance is responsible for providing strategic leadership, governance, and oversight of all compliance and regulatory activities related to employee benefit programs administered by OneDigital Resourcing Edge. This role serves as the organization's internal authority and subject matter expert on benefit-related compliance and regulatory requirements and plays a critical role in protecting the organization from regulatory, financial, and reputational risk.
The Director partners closely with the Benefits organization and key cross-functional stakeholders-including Legal, Payroll, Finance, Systems, and external vendors-to ensure proactive compliance oversight, audit readiness, and continuous improvement across all welfare benefit programs.
Key Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but are not limited to):
- Serve as the enterprise compliance leader for all employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, COBRA, FSA, HSA, and other welfare plans
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive benefits compliance governance framework aligned with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex or high-risk benefits compliance issues
- Monitor, interpret, and assess the impact of federal and state benefits regulations, including ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, Section 125, and regulatory agency guidance
- Translate regulatory requirements into enterprise-level policies, operational controls, standards, and procedures
- Proactively identify emerging regulatory risks and develop mitigation strategies
- Lead internal benefits compliance audits, monitoring programs, and control assessments
- Own the vendor relationships related to compliance
- Ensure organizational audit readiness and serve as a key partner during internal audits, external audits, and regulatory inquiries
- Oversee remediation plans and ensure timely resolution of compliance findings
- Partner with Legal, Payroll, Finance, HR Systems, and external vendors to support regulatory filings, agency requests, and compliance investigations
- Provide strategic guidance to Benefits Operations, Systems, and Service teams to ensure compliance is embedded into workflows and processes
- Oversee multiple department annual and ongoing compliance activities, including ACA reporting, Form 5500 filings, open enrollment compliance reviews, and required disclosures
- Govern benefits compliance documentation, including plan documents, SPDs, SBCs, notices, policies, and standard operating procedures
- Ensure accurate and timely distribution of all legally required employee communications
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and internal stakeholders on benefits compliance matters
- Develop compliance resources, guidance, and training to support consistent execution across the organization
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen controls, reduce risk, and increase operational maturity
- Establish and utilize authoritative tools, industry resources, and regulatory guidance to validate compliance requirements and inform governance, controls, and decision-making
Required Experience & Education - Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Legal Studies, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 8+ years of experience in benefits administration or benefits compliance
- Experience in driving audits, regulatory filings, and compliance reviews
- A high level of knowledge in regulations and legal aspects of health and welfare employee benefits plans.
- A high level of knowledge in area of employee benefit insurance, employee benefit administration, and insurance industry practices.
- Working knowledge of the following software programs: Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power Point.
- Some travel may be required.

Your base pay is dependent upon your skills, education, qualifications, professional experience, and location. In addition to base pay, some roles are eligible for variable compensation, commission, and/or annual bonus based on your individual performance and/or the company's performance.
