This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.Your RoleAs artificial intelligence rapidly transforms how organizations create, collaborate and generate value, CBC/Radio-Canada is accelerating its digital transformation through the creation of a new corporate function dedicated to AI and data strategy, enablement and governance. The creation of the Director, AI Innovation role is central to this ambition. This individual will play a key role in identifying, prioritizing and implementing innovative initiatives that support business objectives and strengthen organizational performance.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategy & Pipeline Management- Build and maintain a disciplined AI innovation pipeline and operating model to accelerate time-to-value for validated concepts.
- Establish instrumentation, KPIs, and observability frameworks to measure pipeline efficacy and report progress to executive leadership.
- Monitor global AI trends and translate research insights into strategic recommendations for capability development.
Portfolio Execution & AI Accelerator- Oversee and grow the corporate AI innovation accelerator program.
- Orchestrate select strategic AI initiatives from initial experimentation through MVP incubation to full operational rollout.
- Maintain a central, shared registry of active AI tools, pilots, and initiatives across the enterprise.
Internal Collaboration, Governance & Advisory- Consult with corporate and unit leaders to identify operational needs and translate them into actionable AI projects.
- Serve as the primary bridge connecting operations, technology, digital, content, legal, and security teams.
- Partner with legal, information security, and governance leads to ensure AI innovation projects meet corporate risk thresholds and policies.
Vendor Relations & Technology Partnerships- Influence internal and external partners to establish AI technology and platform agreements.
- Participate in Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) and roadmap planning with major AI vendors.
- Collaborate with internal engineering and business solution leads to align backlogs and monitor in-house builds.
Enablement, AI Literacy & Playbooks- Champion responsible AI practices and partner with People & Culture to drive employee empowerment.
- Develop playbooks, best practices, and assessment frameworks for AI experimentation and pilot delivery.
- Co-create training materials and learning initiatives with the L&D team to upskill staff Corporation-wide.
Industry Thought Leadership & Representation- Represent CBC/Radio-Canada within domestic and international media and AI ecosystems.
- Create case studies, participate in research networks, and present at industry events to highlight corporate innovation.
What You BringQualifications, experience & skills- 8+ years of experience in innovation, digital transformation, MVP/ Proof of Value development, or emerging technology roles, with strong exposure to AI/ML.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; advanced degree (Masters or equivalent) preferred.
- Deep understanding of generative AI, machine learning concepts, data-driven product development, and modern AI technologies.
- Proven ability to lead large-scale innovation initiatives and translate ideas into scalable business solutions.
- Demonstrable experience leading cross-functional initiatives and teams, leading by influence, managing long-term stakeholder relationships, and industry partnerships.
- Strong experience building and managing external partnerships.
- Demonstrated success influencing senior executives and communicating complex AI concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Media or technology industry experience is strongly preferred.
- Bilingualism (English and French).
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and change management capabilities in ambiguous environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with a collaborative leadership style.
