Job Description:

Reporting to the AVP, Recruiting & Strategic Growth, the Director, Advisor Recruitment is accountable for the national execution and performance of Sun Life Financial Distribution’s (SLFD) advisor recruitment efforts, with a direct focus on delivering advisor appointment targets and strengthening conversion outcomes across the recruitment funnel.

This role leads and develops the Advisor Recruitment Consultants and provides operational oversight of recruitment execution in partnership with Strategy and Select teams. The Director is responsible for ensuring recruitment consultants consistently deliver against targets, leverage data and insights to guide their actions, and build strong, sustainable advisor pipelines across established and emerging markets.

The Director, Advisor Recruitment operates as a results-driven people leader, applying sales discipline, operational rigor, and market insight to improve recruitment effectiveness, diversify pipelines, and enhance advisor and candidate experiences.

What will you do?

Recruitment Execution & Performance Leadership

  • With direction from the AVP, execute national recruitment plans aligned to SLFD growth priorities and advisor appointment targets

  • Lead, coach, and develop Advisor Recruitment Consultants to consistently achieve individual and regional targets

  • Establish clear performance expectations and hold recruitment consultants accountable for outcomes across the recruitment funnel

  • Drive disciplined execution, ensuring consistent recruitment practices while adapting approaches to regional market realities

  • Support annual business planning, target setting and forecasting informed by regional growth priorities, pipeline trends and competitive intelligence

Sales Coaching & Funnel Optimization

  • Coach recruitment consultants using a sales-oriented approach to strengthen sourcing quality, candidate assessment, and conversion at each stage of the recruitment funnel

  • Use data, dashboards, and insights provided by Strategy and Select teams to guide actions, prioritize opportunities, and address performance gaps

  • Identify patterns and root causes impacting conversion and quality, and translate insights into practical coaching and execution changes

Market Expansion & Pipeline Development

  • Lead efforts to build new, sustainable, and diverse advisor pipelines, including entry into emerging or underpenetrated markets

  • Stay closely connected to field realities, candidate motivations, and advisor needs to inform pipeline development approaches

  • Partner with internal teams to test innovative recruitment tactics and sourcing strategies ahead of competitive pressures

  • Champion initiatives that strengthen the diversity, quality, and long-term viability of advisor pipelines

Field Partnership & Intelligence

  • Work closely with Regional Vice-Presidents, , and field leaders to align recruitment execution with regional growth needs

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on advisor recruitment strategies supporting field leader development through coaching, training and best practice

  • Serve as a key conduit of field intelligence, bringing insights from recruitment consultants and the field back to Strategy and Select teams to evolve programs, data, and analytics

  • Promote consistent execution of recruitment activities across regions while supporting market-specific adaptations

People Leadership & Operations

  • Provide strong, hands-on leadership to Advisor Recruitment Consultants and fostering a performance-driven and engaged team culture

  • Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching conversations, and development planning

  • Ensure recruitment operations are well-managed, responsive, and aligned with enterprise priorities

  • Create a high-performance, inclusive environment where recruitment professionals feel supported, challenged, and empowered to do their best work and grow their careers.

Field Leader Relationship Management

  • Partner with the SLFD Field Leadership Teams to support delivery against annual regional advisor appointment targets.

  • Monitor results against targets and proactively address execution risks.

  • Build credibility and trust with field leadership through strong delivery and transparent communication.

  • Bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada and worldwide.
