About the Role
This is a hands-on commercial leadership role-part sales, part team management, part operator. The Director of Account Management is responsible for driving Cymax's vendor portfolio toward measurable growth: securing strong commercial outcomes, and building the kind of trusted, productive partner relationships that create lasting competitive advantage.
We've learned that success in this role is not about sounding strategic-it's about executing daily. The ideal candidate knows how to build a vendor cadence, move fast on new opportunities, and hold the details (pricing, catalog accuracy, timelines) to a high standard. They are as comfortable opening a vendor conversation as they are coaching their team through one.
This is a hybrid role, based out of our Gastown headquarters in Vancouver, BC, with up to 2 days per week in-office.
What You'll Do
Grow the Portfolio & Deepen Category Presence
- Identify and prioritize category growth opportunities within the existing vendor portfolio, developing targeted plans to deepen our presence in key segments.
- Work with vendors to expand product assortment-bringing new SKUs to market.
- Cultivate relationships with emerging brands and product lines.
- Partner with Merchandising and Operations to support catalog accuracy-ensuring vendor-supplied datameets quality standards and is kept current.
Negotiate Deals & Create Mutual Value
- Negotiate promotional programs, rebate agreements, volume discounts, and pricing exclusivities withpartners.
- Proactively identify promotional opportunities and bring forward well-timed proposals that vendors want to say yes to.
- Structure win-win agreements that incentivize partners to prioritize Cymax while delivering margin improvement.
- Partner with Finance and FP&A on vendor-level forecasting and P&L tracking.
Own Vendor Relationships & Partnership Health
- Establish a consistent, structured cadence with vendors-regular check-ins, QBRs, and performance reviews.
- Serve as a senior point of escalation for vendor issues, ensuring fast resolution and strong ongoing relationships.
- Work closely with vendors to understand their roadmaps so Cymax is always positioned ahead of the curve.
- Set clear expectations for how Cymax works with its vendors-response times, communication standards, and cross-functional alignment-so every partnership operates smoothly.
Lead & Develop Your Team
- Manage and coach a team of account managers and vendor success reps-setting clear expectations and holding them to results.
- Allocate portfolio assignments thoughtfully; match rep strengths to account complexity.
- Run regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and team development conversations.
- Build a team culture that is commercial, proactive, anddetail-obsessed.
Collaborate Across the Business
- Partner with Merchandising, Marketing, Marketplaces, and Operations to align vendor activity with broader business priorities.
- Coordinate with Marketing on seasonal promotional planning and retail calendar alignment.
- Identify process gaps and champion improvements that remove friction for vendors and internal teams alike.

Compensation & Benefits
The expected salary range for this role is $130,000-$150,000, depending on experience, skills, and organizational fit.
