Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for a Director 2(D2) leading the Aerospace Structures Operating Unit (OU) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This leadership role located in Clearfield, Utah.

The Program Director will have direct profit and loss (P&L) responsibility for a portfolio of programs and products supporting both Northrop Grumman internal customers and Prime Contracting customers external to Northrop Grumman. This leader will also be responsible for partnering closely with Business Development to capture follow-on and new business opportunities aligned with the company's strategy. Additionally, the Program Director will directly supervise all Program Managers supporting the business as a merchant supplier of Military Aircraft, Space-Medium lift launch products, and Commercial Aircraft. The D2 leads customer interface with senior leaders within Northrop Grumman and other Prime Contractors.

Role Description and Responsibilities:
  • Excellent leadership skills aligned with the company's values; integral part of Aerospace Structures Operating Unit (OU) leadership team participating with a seat at the table, candor, respect and alignment to NGC goals and values.
  • Demonstrates and drives the importance of a strong culture of accountability, excellence, employee engagement, and belonging.
  • Leads business lane and program strategy development that integrates with the overall business and strategies of NGAS and the OU and establishes goals and plans to meet that strategy. This includes strategies to capture follow-on and new business opportunities within the Military Aircraft structures market
  • Develops and participates in the annual long-range strategic planning process (LRSP).
  • Execute multiple programs successfully by managing safety, quality, schedule, delivery, and cost (P&L responsibility) for fixed price and cost type contracts and Intercompany Work Orders (IWOs).
  • Directs proposal preparation to ensure proposals are competitive, create customer value, aligns with the company's business and growth strategy, is compliant with company standards, and provides a proper base for successful negotiations and program performance.
  • As a merchant supplier, the business lane director must understand the need for protecting customer information and help develop business strategies including the use of nondisclosure agreements and firewalls accordingly.
  • Manage contract negotiations, endorse final price and contract terms and resolve contract issues.
  • Drive technical excellence by setting program standards, enabling cross-functional support and reaching across multiple NG sectors and divisions, effectively managing risk and opportunities, and delivering performance.
  • Oversee the development of program plans and critical milestones.
  • Meet master program plans and schedules by identifying and assessing risks, and initiating necessary corrective actions.
  • Serves as a company representative to customers, ensuring there is an understanding of core capabilities and provides customers with creative business and technical solutions for their requirements.
  • Service the customer by executing the program and resolving issues in accordance with business objectives, strategy, legal requirements, regulations, contract terms, and company policies.
  • Provide overall leadership and direction to the program team that include coaching team members, resolving conflicts, reviewing performance, and initiating process improvement and corrective actions when necessary.
  • Set role and performance expectations, and provide ongoing feedback and performance appraisals, and develop future program leaders.
  • Provide directions to internal functional teams and ensure strategic teaming and positioning with key suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Oversee program planning and execution through applicable phases including concept, exploration, engineering development, advanced development, production, sustainment, and retirement to continuously drive results.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years (or Bachelor of Science in STEM and 9 years) of related experience as defined below, OR a master's degree and 8 years (or Master of Science in STEM and 7 years) of related experience as defined below.
  • Related experience includes professional and/or military experience to include a background in project management, program management, engineering, capture efforts, and/or business management related functions.
  • 5 years in program or project leadership roles.
  • Your ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. Government Secret Clearance and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.
  • Experience leading a multi-functional team.
  • Thorough knowledge of program management for development, production and sustainment programs.
  • Experience managing major programs or portfolio of programs more than $300M sales annually.
  • Experience with Firm Fixed Price, Cost-Plus-Fixed-Fee (CPFF) and Intercompany Work Order (IWO) contracts.
  • Understanding of business and strategy development and comfortable working in a highly competitive marketplace.
  • Experience working with Military Prime and DoD customers and their partners.
  • Experience working with Commercial aircraft prime customers and suppliers.
  • Understanding of the DoD acquisition and budgeting process.
  • Knowledge of business systems, including Earned Value Management, Risk and Opportunity Management, and contract management.
  • Demonstrated experience leading managers and teams engaged in executing multiple contracts and customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide verbal and written information clearly, succinctly, and persuasively.
  • Experience working with high-ranking military officials, prime contractors, and commercial executives.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance last investigated within 6 years or enrolled in continuous evaluation.
  • Master's degree in business, science, engineering, or related.


Primary Level Salary Range: $230,000.00 - $345,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
