Job DescriptionBAE Systems is hiring a Director of Contracts to support our Maritime Solutions business in Norfolk, VA. The Director will be responsible for the oversight of the Contracts function for BAE Systems Norfolk Maritime Solutions.
This position will be 100% onsite in Norfolk, VA to support business needs.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a key part of the senior business management team for Norfolk Maritime Solutions.
- Serve as an influential leader in the entire range of contract formation, negotiation, and administration policies and processes in accordance with customer expectations and corporate objectives.
- Provide hands-on leadership that offers high-level strategic coaching as well as occasional front-line contract management.
- Provide high-level guidance and hands-on coaching to Contracts professionals, including complex contractual arrangements of strategic importance to the business.
- Influence career development and establish training opportunities for contract professionals to enhance individual capabilities and elevate team performance.
- Provides expertise, guidance, training, and leadership to cross-functional business team members.
- Lead discussions and/or briefings with various leadership and other key personnel, participate in complex negotiations, and develop contract management strategies to mitigate risk.
- Ensure efficient and effective flow of information among Contracts team, leadership team, cross-functional teams, and/or customer(s) as needed.
- Establish or update contract policies and processes to ensure achievement of corporate expectations.
- Understand the business case, the impacts of financial/analytical issues, and profit and loss implications.
- Participate in development of business alliances, acquisitions, and divestitures we well as risk management.
- Stay abreast of industry best practices and trends to optimize efficiency and effectiveness of Contracts function.
Required Skills and Education- Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience
- Experience in Contracts Management, including process improvement and risk management
- Experienced in Contract Lifecycle, including prime and subcontracts, from proposal phase to contract closeout
- Experience in People Management, including leading and developing contracts professionals
- Experience in Defense Contracting including Cost type, Firm Fixed Price, T&M, and Services Contracts
- Experience in Commercial Contracts
- Knowledge of FAR and DFAR
- Ability to effect and manage change
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, solicitations/RFPs, or governmental regulations
- Motivational and visionary leadership skills, including the ability to recognize and develop emerging leadership talent
- Strong team-building and leadership skills, with the ability to perform in a complex cross-functional business environment
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to write clear and concise reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong business acumen
Preferred Skills and Education- Master's Degree
- Professional Certification NCMA, CFCM, CPCM, etc.
- Experience in NAVSEA, MSC, and MARAD Ship Repair
- Experience in Process Development/Improvement and Standardizing Frameworks
- Experience in Contract System Implementation, Automation, and Digital Transformation
- Experience in Change Management and Organizational Transformation
- Strong skills in Collaboration and Relationship Management
