Job Description

The Digital Practice Specialist - BIM/VDC provides leadership, technical expertise, and coordination for digital delivery, BIM, model-based design, and engineering information management across transportation and infrastructure projects. The role supports project teams in implementing modern digital delivery practices, improving collaboration, advancing model-based workflows, and enabling successful delivery through platforms such as Bentley and Autodesk.

Working across disciplines, business centers, and joint venture partners, the Digital Practice Specialist serves as a trusted advisor for digital strategy, BIM implementation, common data environments, model governance, interoperability, and technical workflow development. The position promotes consistency, quality, and innovation while helping project teams adopt efficient and scalable digital delivery solutions.

This position reports to the -Senior Digital Delivery Manager

Key Responsibilities

Digital Delivery & BIM Leadership

  • Lead implementation of BIM and digital delivery workflows on major transportation, rail, roadway, bridge, and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
  • Support development and maintenance of Digital Project Execution Plans (DPxP), BIM execution strategies, and project digital delivery requirements.
  • Establish governance, standards, naming conventions, model management processes, and information management workflows.
  • Facilitate BIM coordination activities across internal and external project teams.
  • Other tasks as assigned.


Common Data Environment & Information Management
  • Support deployment, configuration, and administration of Bentley and Autodesk CDE environments.
  • Develop and maintain workflows for model publishing, iModels, federated model review, issue management, and design coordination.
  • Assist teams in implementing ISO-aligned digital delivery and information management practices.
  • Promote effective use of common data environments and single-source-of-truth principles
  • Collaborate with the Infrastructure Digital Practice (IDP) Services and Solutions Managers, to provide overall design software support services.


Technical Delivery & Workflow Development
  • Provide guidance on Model-Based Design applications in one of the following:
    • Bentley Open applications including OpenRoads, OpenRail, OpenBridge, MicroStation, ProjectWise, and Bentley Infrastructure Cloud.
    • Autodesk AEC applications including Civil 3D, Revit, InfraWorks, Inventor, Autodesk Forma Cloud
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), workflow documentation, training materials, and implementation guidance.
  • Troubleshoot complex BIM, CAD, model management, interoperability, and data exchange issues.
  • Support integration between Bentley and Autodesk ecosystems and other connected digital platforms.


Training, Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
  • Lead technical workshops, user groups, BIM coordination meetings, and project-specific training sessions.
  • Mentor project teams on digital delivery best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Develop and deliver demonstrations, educational content, and adoption resources to increase digital capability across the organization.
  • Foster collaboration among project teams, digital practice leaders, software vendors, and external partners.


Strategic Project Support
  • Provide digital leadership for major programs requiring multidisciplinary coordination and advanced model-based delivery.
  • Support quality assurance, model review, clash detection initiatives, model governance, and coordination reviews.
  • Evaluate and recommend process improvements that increase efficiency, reduce risk, and enhance project delivery outcomes.
  • Represent Infrastructure Digital Practice in project planning, client discussions, and industry-facing digital initiatives.
  • Assist with proposals and help position Digital Practice capabilities in pursuit efforts


Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

Technical & Digital Skills
  • 5+ years of experience in infrastructure digital delivery, BIM, major projects, and digital project execution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) designation preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with Bentley and Autodesk digital delivery platforms and transportation infrastructure workflows.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, training, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and implement digital transformation initiatives across large, complex projects.


Preferred / Differentiating Skills
  • Experience supporting infrastructure, engineering, or consulting delivery environments
  • Understanding of data governance, workflow standardization, and digital delivery models
  • Experience working with geospatial or engineering data sets is an asset
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital project execution planning, technical advisory services, and delivery coordination for complex infrastructure projects.

Education and Experience
