Overview

We're seeking an experienced Digital Pathology Supervisor to join our dynamic team!

Shift: 8am - 4:30pm

Description

Leadership and Management:
  1. Responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of the Digital Imaging Technicians and Pathology Imaging Workflow Administrator. Provides direct supervision, guidance, and leadership to all Digital Imaging Technicians and Pathology Imaging Workflow Administrator(s).
  2. Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the department, including HR, payroll, performance reviews, weekly scheduling, hiring/interviewing new employees, and training.
  3. Actively participates in the hiring process and decision-making.
  4. Provides ongoing performance feedback, including mid-year and annual evaluations.
  5. Collaborates with leadership on personnel-related issues and participates in discussions regarding disciplinary actions.
  6. Monitors and ensures adequate inventory supply for the department and may be responsible for ordering.


Workflow Analysis & Optimization:
  1. May serve as a key operator for the implementation of new equipment and procedures, monitoring and ensuring adequate inventory supply and ordering as assigned.
  2. Evaluates the validity of acceptable quality control, slides and test results, documenting corrective actions.
  3. In complex cases, evaluates all information to decide whether test results should be released, repeated, or referred to a pathologist or appropriate individual(s).
  4. Responsible for troubleshooting and reporting departmental process issues, assigning immediate tasks to directly reporting employees and following up for prompt outcomes.
  5. Familiar with all processes, procedures, and programs to assist staff as necessary and ensure smooth operation.


Application & System Expertise:
  1. Performs preventive and advanced maintenance, troubleshoots, communicates with service representatives, and calibrates laboratory instruments as required.
  2. May manage section's database files or assist in software testing.
  3. May serve as access coordinator for the department.


Operational Excellence:
  1. Engages in departmental process improvement discussions and decisions.
  2. Leads or assists in quality improvement projects, including data collection and report preparation.


Training & Staff Support:
  1. Orients and trains employees, verifies their competency, and identifies opportunities for skill development through teaching and continuing education programs.
  2. Assigns and prioritizes workload effectively.
  3. Provides training for Digital Pathology staff on the use, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of scanners in Digital Pathology.
  4. Cultivates a supportive and growth-oriented environment for counselors, promoting specialization and professional development.
  5. Facilitates ongoing training for Digital Pathology staff on the operation, maintenance, and problem-solving techniques related to scanners.


Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication:
  1. Engages with Pathology Faculty, AP Operational Leaders, and Beaker AP Clinical Applications Analysts and Manager to identify opportunities for enhancing EHC Pathology Services workflow. Regularly convenes with AP Operational leaders, Epic Beaker AP Leadership, Pathologists, and AP Expert Users to present findings and propose solutions for workflow improvement.
  2. Establishes relationships within the Lab organization and across EHC by scheduling regular meetings with key stakeholders and clients, participating in meetings and task forces, and engaging as necessary.


Documentation & Compliance:
  1. Assisting in writing, reviewing, and revising departmental policies, procedures, and related forms to ensure adherence to local, state, federal, and regulatory guidelines, while ensuring staff accountability.
  2. Monitoring staff during safety compliance audits or drills.


Professional Development:
  1. Attends educational in-services as appropriate, including leadership classes provided by the organization.
  2. 2. Collaborates with leader to create a professional development plan and engages in professional activities and organizations to stay informed of current trends, practices, and developments.


Additional Duties as Assigned.

Travel: Less than 10% of the time may be required.

Work Type: Hybrid employee - splits time between working remotely and working in the office

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, clinical lab science or chemical, physical or biological science
  • Experience:
    • Five (5) years of related Pathology experience and 2+ years of supervisory experience, preferably in the healthcare or hospital industry
  • Skills, abilities and knowledge:
    • 1. Technical imaging skills
    • 2. Strong knowledge of Pathology workflow, Pathology modalities, and medical anatomy.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education:
    • Master's degree in related science Experience: Experience in application systems/administration beneficial.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing; good interpersonal skills to work with diverse populations in a fast-paced environment.
