Full Job Description
Digital Media Specialist II

The Allen Institute Communications team is looking for a motivated and creative Digital Media Specialist who has the writing, technical and artistic skills to tell the Allen Institute story across all digital platforms. The role will report to the Digital Content Manager.

As Digital Media Specialist II, you'll provide end-to-end management of the Allen Institute's social media channels. You'll write engaging and clickable copy, create and edit eye-catching visuals, and develop social media posts that bring the Institute's story to life. Additionally, you'll bring new and creative ideas on how to get the most value out of every social media post by using analytics tools and staying up to date on digital optimization strategies. Finally, you'll apply what you learn from the latest trends and technologies in digital media creation, management, usability, and design.

Essential Functions
  • Manage the Allen Institute's social media channels and develop social media strategies and plans aimed at building engagement, reach, and followers
  • Create compelling content, including written posts, videos, GIFs and other engaging visual media that is consistent with the Institute's visual brand identity and voice.
  • Develop and execute the social media editorial calendar to support timely announcements, event promotion, brand campaigns, and other outreach priorities.
  • Accurately distill complex scientific research, data, and concepts, into easy-to-understand, impactful content
  • Build and continuously evolve social media strategies to incorporate trends, platform updates, and best practices that grow engagement, followers, and awareness.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Content Manager to define and develop social media evaluation frameworks to measure key performance indicators and targets.
  • Meet quarterly social media growth and engagement targets
  • Collaborate with Editorial and Media Team to execute integrated media campaigns aimed at growing and strengthening brand awareness
  • Engage in daily social listening to find opportunities for leveraging trending topics, news, and memes
  • Develop and manage social influencer programs
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest digital media trends, technologies, and new social media platforms, building new audiences where appropriate
  • Support various other communications projects, initiatives, and events as needed

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Digital Media, Marketing, or Communications
  • Minimum two (2) year of experience in digital media, marketing, or communications
  • Proficient in front and back-end management of social media platforms
  • Strong writing, organizational, and project management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Education and Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in digital media, marketing, or communications
  • Communications experience in an institutional, non-profit, or agency environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organization and from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • Intermediate knowledge of SEO/AEO concepts and strategies.
  • Experience with video production
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, Sprout Social, and DSLR photography
  • Proficiency distilling and communicating technical scientific material for a general audience
  • Background in journalism

Physical Demands
  • Occasional lifting to 30 pounds
  • Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment; repetitive motion with lab equipment
  • Push/pull up to 50lbs
  • Stooping, bending, crouching

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours required
  • This role is currently able to work both remotely and onsite in a hybrid work environment. We are a Washington State employer, and the primary work location for all Allen Institute employees is 615 Westlake Ave N.; any remote work must be performed in Washington State.

Annualized Salary Range
  • $81,350 - $109,615*

* Final salary depends on the required education for the role, experience, level of skills relevant to the role, and work location, where applicable.
