Position Summary:

The WNBA is seeking a detail-oriented Digital Content Publisher to support day-to-day editorial publishing across WNBA.com, the WNBA App, push notifications, League Pass surfaces and other connected devices. This role plays a central part in ensuring fans are consistently served the league's most relevant stories, highlights, and priority moments across all owned platforms. This role will play a key part in showcasing the athletes as people, their personalities, stories, and lives on and off the court.

The ideal candidate is a digital-native storyteller with strong editorial instincts who understands how to curate platform experiences for the digital sports fan, write compelling and engaging editorial and functional copy, and respond quickly to real-time league developments with a balance of speed, accuracy and excellence. This role requires someone who maintains a constant pulse on the WNBA and can translate league moments into engaging digital experiences for fans.

You will support live publishing, platform optimization, editorial planning and creation, and real-time coverage across the league's digital ecosystem. An ability to move quickly and multi-task is essential.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Own real-time publishing during games, breaking news moments, and major league events, serving as a primary publisher across WNBA.com, the WNBA App, push notifications, and League Pass content surfaces, moving seamlessly between all and determining when content requires platform-native executions versus when it can be efficiently repurposed across platforms
  • Be able to identify nightly emerging storylines as well as on-court moments and headlines that need to have elevated coverage on league platforms and then be able to spin halo content to extend engagement
  • Write and optimize copy and other editorial storytelling elements (vertical content, photo, video) on all digital platforms ensuring it is aligned with WNBA voice and editorial standards
  • Ensure all digital content executions follow publishing workflows including formatting, QA, scheduling, and content launches and that content meets platform best practices across mobile, desktop, and app environments.
  • Adhere to and maintain the digital content calendar across WNBA.com, the WNBA App, push notifications, and key league tentpoles to ensure timely, strategic, and coordinated storytelling across all owned platforms and make updates where needed as part of shift
  • Maintain daily curation of homepage placements, app rails, and editorial positioning to ensure fans are consistently seeing -- especially in real time -- the league's most important and timely content; and structure digital platforms to highlight priority storylines, tentpole moments, player performances, and breaking news.
  • Collaborate with an array of league stakeholders and cross-functional partners across social, creative, originals, marketing, partnerships, and broadcast teams to support coordinated cross-functional efforts.
  • Monitor league developments, player movement, cultural conversations, and basketball-based-storytelling throughout both the season and offseason to identify as opportunities for O+O content that is both real-time and evergreen
  • As a publisher, explore, test and seek out new opportunities to utilize platforms for dynamic digital content executions both with vendors as as well as cross-functional content partners on social and originals production
  • Track platform performance signals and adjust content placement based on engagement patterns and league priorities.
  • Assist with event digital content coverage planning across tentpole moments including Draft, All-Star, Playoffs, and Finals.

Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes:
  • 2-5+ years of professional experience in digital publishing, editorial production or sports media, with preference on vertical and app content and a daily content cycle
  • In-depth basketball knowledge with strong familiarity with the WNBA including teams, athletes, storylines, and news cycles
  • Awareness of digital content strategies and tactics and initiative to engage across a spectrum of W loyalists, casual sports fans and cultural touchpoints
  • Demonstrated ability to manage content publishing workflows in fast-paced environments and to work independently and with initiative
  • Strong writing, headline development, and copyediting skills, understanding how copy strengthens engagement and digital fan journey in conjunction with other content assets
  • Experience working inside CMS platforms such as WordPress, Storyteller, Braze, or similar publishing tools preferred with a willingness to adapt and learn new platforms as the digital ecosystem grows
  • Ability to monitor news cycles and cultural conversation to identify timely content opportunities, with interest and fluency of the social and digital media landscape
  • Understanding of how editorial positioning and curation impacts fan engagement across digital platforms
  • Experience supporting live-event publishing coverage across multiple platforms
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop, Premiere, or similar creative tools is a plus.
