Position Overview:

A strategic business leader responsible for the growth, financial performance, and long-term vision of the digestive health program. Serving as the dyad partner to the lead physician, this role ensures programmatic development, financial sustainability, and strategic expansion while aligning with enterprise-level priorities. Oversees business strategy, financial planning, payer relationships, and program development strategy to position the transplant program as a leader in clinical innovation, patient outcomes, and operational efficiency.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Strategic Leadership & Growth

  • Partner with the lead physician to drive programmatic strategy, innovation, and long-term vision.
  • Lead the growth and development of new services, including market expansion, partnerships, and payer contracting strategies.
  • Oversee business planning, financial forecasting, and volume projections to drive transplant program sustainability.
  • Develop and implement strategies for referral growth, patient access, and outreach initiatives.

Financial & Business Operations

  • Oversee financial management, including operating budgets, cost containment strategies, and reimbursement optimization.
  • Partner with finance, contracting, and managed care teams to evaluate payer mix, reimbursement rates, and value-based care opportunities.
  • Lead business case development for capital investments, technology adoption, and service expansion.
  • Assess alternative revenue streams (e.g., research funding, philanthropy, industry partnerships).

Regulatory & Compliance Strategy

  • Ensure compliance with United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and Joint Commission standards through strategic oversight.
  • Work collaboratively with regulatory and quality teams to ensure data-driven decision-making and continuous performance improvement.

Enterprise & External Engagement

  • Serve as the primary executive liaison between system leadership, physicians, and external partners.
  • Foster relationships with industry leaders, health system executives, and networks to advance strategic objectives.
  • Coordinate with service lines to drive forward new clinical programs and repatriation efforts across Sutter services.

EDUCATION:

Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.

Master’s: Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), or related field.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

6 years recent relevant experience

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Proven track record in:

  • Leading cross-functional initiatives across clinical and administrative teams.
  • Developing strategic plans and executing complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Financial modeling, payer strategy, and business case development.

Exceptional communication and executive presence, with experience in physician engagement and executive-level reporting.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Asana, or similar).

Pay Range is $202,030.40 to $323,232.00 / annual salary

The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs. Base pay is only one component of Sutter Health’s comprehensive total rewards program. Eligible positions also include a comprehensive benefits package.
