DevOps Engineer (Troy, MI)

We are seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer to support and enhance a complex multi-tenant web application environment hosted primarily within a VMware-based data center infrastructure with growing Azure integrations. This role is responsible for infrastructure reliability, platform operations, automation, CI/CD pipeline support, backups, monitoring, and operational support across Linux, Tomcat, and DB2 technologies.

The ideal candidate combines strong Linux systems administration expertise with infrastructure management, automation experience, troubleshooting skills, and a proactive operational mindset.

Please note - This is a regular full-time position. This is not a contracted (1099) role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and support multi-tenant production, staging, and development environments
  • Manage Linux-based infrastructure supporting Tomcat application servers and DB2 databases
  • Maintain and optimize VMware virtual infrastructure within the corporate data center
  • Support Azure integrations, IaaS scripting (IAC), and hybrid-cloud connectivity
  • Support and maintain CI/CD pipeline infrastructure and automation tooling
  • Partner with development teams to improve build reliability, deployment automation, and operational efficiency
  • Monitor system performance, availability, capacity, and security across all environments
  • Manage backup strategies, disaster recovery procedures, and restore testing
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure, application, database, and networking issues across environments
  • Implement and maintain infrastructure automation and operational scripting
  • Maintain system configurations, middleware services, and environment consistency
  • Collaborate with software engineering, database administration, security, and infrastructure teams
  • Develop and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and system diagrams
  • Participate in after-hours support and incident response as needed
  • Ensure environments meet security, compliance, and operational standards
  • Assist with capacity planning, system scaling, and high-availability initiatives
  • Support load balancing, SSL certificate management, DNS, and related infrastructure services

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of DevOps, Systems Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering experience
  • 5+ years of advanced experience administering in Linux server environments
  • 5+ years of experience managing Apache Tomcat environments in production
  • 5+ years of experience supporting DB2 database environments
  • Experience administering VMware and Hyper-V infrastructure in enterprise data centers
  • Experience supporting backup and disaster recovery solutions
  • Familiarity with Azure services and hybrid-cloud integrations
  • Experience supporting CI/CD tooling and automation frameworks
  • Experience with scripting and automation using Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including firewalls, load balancers, DNS, and SSL/TLS
  • Experience with monitoring and logging platforms
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
  • Experience supporting high-availability production systems
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting multi-tenant SaaS or enterprise web application environments
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools
  • Experience with containerization technologies
  • Experience with security hardening and vulnerability remediation
  • Knowledge of performance tuning for Linux, Tomcat, and DB2
  • VMware or Azure certifications

Work Schedule - Full time. Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:30 pm. Permanent Remote position (No in-office days).

Pay - The salary range for this position is $105,000 - $115,000 per year. Actual salary is dependent on skills, experience, education, and other business factors.
