Locum Developmental Pediatrician

Term: Temporary Full Time, 1 year term (November 5, 2026 to November 4, 2027)

The Child Development and Rehabilitation Program (CDR) at Sunny Hill is a provincial resource providing consultation and community support for the management of children with disabilities. You will be expected to work with the inter-disciplinary teams and provide medical expertise to support these teams.

An outstanding opportunity is available to join the Division of Developmental Pediatrics at BC Children's Hospital/Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children and the University of British Columbia as a clinician with a broad range of abilities in assessing children with neurodiversity. Depending on the individual's experience the work will be within a combination of programs including acute rehabilitation, neuromotor, and diagnostic assessments for a broad range of developmental concerns including cerebral palsy, autism spectrum, intellectual disorder and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Experience and comfort with social pediatrics is also hoped for in this position.

The Division has thirty faculty members and works within a program management model with excellent inter-professional collaborative opportunities. The Division has a Royal College approved training program in Developmental Pediatrics.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose and manage infants, children and youth with developmental, behavioural, neurodevelopmental and associated medical conditions.
• Conduct comprehensive developmental assessments for children with a range of developmental concerns, including autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder and other neurodevelopmental conditions.
• Diagnose and manage developmental disorders and disabilities and provide specialized consultation and treatment recommendations to physicians, families and other health professionals.
• Provide ongoing medical management and developmental pediatric consultation for children and youth with disabilities, complex developmental needs and rehabilitation needs.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including psychologists, therapists, social workers, nurses and other medical specialists, to develop and implement individualized, family-centred care plans.
• Assess and manage children and youth with neuromotor and other rehabilitation-related conditions, where applicable to the assigned clinical program.
• Interpret and synthesize developmental, behavioural and medical information to support diagnosis, treatment recommendations and care planning.
• Provide education, counselling and support to patients, families and caregivers regarding developmental conditions, treatment plans and available services.
• Liaise with community health professionals and service providers to coordinate care and facilitate access to appropriate services and supports.
• Participate in clinical teaching and supervision of medical students, residents, fellows and other health professional trainees.
• Participate in case conferences, multidisciplinary planning and quality improvement and program development activities, as appropriate.

The successful candidate will have a fellowship in Pediatrics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and subspecialty training and certification in Developmental Pediatrics (FRCPC) or equivalent training within another country. The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain a specialist's license to practice medicine in British Columbia.

The successful candidate will be appointed (rank commensurate with experience) within the Department of Pediatrics and will participate in clinical care, teaching, and if applicable quality improvement. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
