The Opportunity

As a dedicated Development Product Owner Senior in the Digital Messaging and Documents space, you will serve as the direct representative of the business on an Agile team, bridging the gap between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams. You will understand, articulate, and champion the business vision and objectives, translating complex business needs into clear, actionable, and well-defined user stories. You will prioritize and refine the product backlog, provide ongoing guidance to development teams, and ensure work is aligned with strategic goals and customer value. By leveraging critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and Agile principles, you will collaborate closely with business owners, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams to deliver effective, scalable solutions. You will apply advanced knowledge of Agile and other delivery methodologies to drive successful outcomes, maximize business value, and support the continuous delivery of innovative digital messaging and document solutions.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week.

This position can be based in one of the following USAA office locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ.

What you'll do:
  • Works with business stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts to understand business strategy and vision, then writes, refines, prioritizes, and accepts user stories and features that support effective, compliant solutions while balancing investment and business value.
  • Owns and maintains a prioritized product backlog for one or more Agile teams, ensuring user stories include clear acceptance criteria and are ready for development and testing. Reviews and accepts deliverables from IT and business teams to confirm acceptance criteria have been met.
  • Serves as the direct representative of the business for one or more delivery teams, advocating for the customer perspective throughout the product delivery lifecycle.
  • Collaborates with a cross-functional team of user experience partners, designers, business analysts, developers, testers, and other stakeholders to develop, deliver, and release solutions aligned with product and program roadmaps.
  • Partners with sponsors, stakeholders, and IT to facilitate, define, and document business processes while developing an advanced understanding of business needs, success measures, risks, and controls within the improvement area.
  • Prepares the business for change by defining adoption strategies, benefit realization metrics, and risk mitigation approaches, leveraging existing change management practices as appropriate.
  • Partners with teams across multiple internal and external technologies to provide oversight of development, testing, and control processes.
  • Applies advanced expertise in product development and delivery, proactively identifying opportunities to enhance processes, improve outcomes, and advance organizational capabilities.
  • Coaches and mentors other Product Owners.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge across multiple business and technology domains and leads product development efforts across multiple teams, projects, or programs.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.


What you have:
  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.
  • 6 years of experience in project delivery, business/requirements analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, applicable databases and product management tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of multiple technical software delivery methodologies (i.e., Agile, Waterfall, SAFe).
  • Advanced experience analyzing business requirements, process flows and use cases to identify opportunities to streamline business processes in accordance with risk management framework and regulatory requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated use of Process Engineering methodologies.
  • Advanced ability to independently work to gather business requirements, process flows and use cases to develop and deliver on business capabilities within the approved methodology, writing user stories, and following the development process through user story acceptance.
  • Experience in analyzing business requirements and ability to identify opportunities to drive decisions and streamline business processes in accordance with risk management framework and regulatory requirements.


What sets you apart:
  • 5+ years of advanced experience with Agile/SAFe project delivery methodologies.
  • 2+ years of experience working in Jira.
  • 3+ years of experience effectively challenging all levels of management and influencing business outcomes.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-level digital products, applications, or technology initiatives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Experience facilitating Program Increment (PI) Planning, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and other Agile ceremonies using Zoom whiteboard or similar collaboration tools.
  • Experience creating and delivering presentations, business recommendations, and status updates to leadership and mid-level management audiences.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience driving alignment, accountability, and results across cross-functional teams.
  • SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), or comparable Agile certification preferred.
  • US military experience gained through military service or gained as a military spouse / domestic partner.


Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $103,450.00 - $197,730.00

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
