Development Manager - Initiatives

Remote Canada (preference for Eastern time zone)

Position Overview:

Covaleyo is seeking a Development Manager and AI leader to lead a lean AI innovation and development team. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with strong software development experience and practical knowledge of AI who can use emerging AI tools to develop software, rapidly build prototypes and iterate, and bring new ideas from concept to working solution.

The successful candidate will lead and mentor the development team while actively using AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software development and experimentation. They will also help ensure that solutions are developed with appropriate security, privacy, and compliance considerations, particularly within a financial services environment.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on technical leader to help shape how AI is used to develop and enhance software within a growing fintech business.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering & AI Leadership

  • Lead software development, ensuring high-quality, scalable, secure solutions and strong Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices.


  • Provide technical guidance on architecture, infrastructure, and system design while leveraging AI-assisted development tools.


  • Lead AI innovation, including prototyping, proof-of-concepts, and evaluating emerging AI technologies.


  • Ensure strong alignment between engineering and product teams to support successful delivery.


Team Leadership

  • Manage, mentor, and provide technical leadership to an offshore development team.


  • Establish clear goals, KPIs, and performance expectations while fostering ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.


  • Build team capabilities in software development, AI, and emerging technologies.


Security & Compliance

  • Ensure software and AI solutions incorporate strong security, privacy, and compliance practices.


  • Apply knowledge of PII, security integrations, and SOC audits throughout the development lifecycle.


Strategic & Business Impact

  • Align development and technology strategies with business goals and revenue objectives.


  • Identify emerging technologies and opportunities that drive innovation and business value.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, EconomicsMathematics, or a related technical or analytical discipline.


  • 5+ years experience with a strong background in AI, software development, technology innovation, or a related field.


  • Demonstrated experience prototyping and developing software solutions using AI tools and AI-assisted development technologies.


  • Strong practical knowledge of AI and AIagentic development tools (AI DLC) and how they can be used to accelerate software development.


  • Experience leading, mentoring, or managing a technical or innovation-focused team.


  • Understanding of software security, PII, security integrations, SOC audits, and related compliance considerations.


  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.


  • Ability to work in a hands-on environment and move quickly from concept to prototype.


  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.


  • Experience in the financial services or fintech sector is an asset.


Salary Range (Ontario & BC Only):
The estimated base salary range for this role is CAD$135,000.00 - CAD$165,000.00 per year. We include salary ranges in job postings only where required by applicable pay transparency laws, based on the jurisdictions in which the role may be performed. The posted range is a good faith estimate and reflects factors that are subject to change. Final offer amounts may vary based on job-related factors, including work location, candidate experience and expertise, and other relevant considerations.
