Job Description

As a Development Engineer - Generator Excitation you will be based in our Cranberry Township, PA office and leverage your expertise in generator excitation systems, excitation controls, and power plant operations to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions to our customers.

Power & Water Solutions is an industry-leading controls automation company that focuses on providing applications in the renewable (solar, hydro, wind), fossil (natural gas and coal) power generation, and water treatment plants sectors. We focus on upgrading existing plant control systems with industry-leading automation controls and instrumentation to promote the sustainability and longevity of our North American power grid and wastewater infrastructure.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Maintain and extend code base of the current digital excitation control module.
  • Provide technical support to field service and projects engineering staff.
  • Provide technical support to marketing and sales, generally in the form of proposal reviews and fielding requests for new functionality.
  • Interface with excitation technical consultant as needed to investigate startup issues during power plant commissioning.
  • Provide technical guidance to the validation team.
  • Support technical writers writing user manuals.
  • Work with and the support the Excitation Software Toolkit scripts.
  • Maintain and extend the Excitation Software Toolkit SMV database.

For This Role, You Will Need:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or similar STEM degree.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with Embedded "C" programming language. Military and/or commercial power system training and experience will also be considered.
  • Knowledge of closed-loop feedback controls and high-speed processing of AC and DC signals
  • Up to 5% of travel
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States - sponsorship will not be provided for this position

  • Digital filter concepts
  • Real-time programming experience
  • Comfortable with Bode plots
  • Windows PowerShell is a plus
  • Excitation knowledge base:
    • Generator controls
    • Generator protective systems
    • Power system stabilizer functionality
    • Three-phase power fundamentals
    • Familiarity with IEEE Std. 421.5
    • SCR bridge firing controls
    • Per unit system
  • Knowledge of power plant operation is a plus.
