Full Job Description
Candidate will design, develop, enhance, and support critical mainframe applications used for healthcare claims processing and related business operations. This position requires strong hands-on experience across COBOL, JCL, DB2, and CICS, along with the ability to troubleshoot production systems and deliver reliable application solutions.

Required Qualifications of the Developer III Mainframe:
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to provide sponsorship or work with Third-Party agencies.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; alternatively, 4 years of relevant experience, or 2 years of relevant experience plus an Associate's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in application development, systems testing, or a related technical discipline.
  • Hands-on COBOL development experience supporting both batch and online applications, including program enhancements and production troubleshooting.
  • Strong JCL experience with batch processing, job scheduling, restart/recovery, and batch-job troubleshooting.
  • Strong DB2 experience, including SQL development, database access, query development, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on CICS experience with online transaction processing, application development, and production support.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex requirements, develop technical solutions, and troubleshoot issues within an enterprise mainframe environment.
  • Healthcare payer or health insurance experience is strongly preferred, particularly experience supporting claims processing applications.
  • Must be available for a hybrid schedule with onsite work Tuesday-Thursday and as needed; in-person interview, credit check, and participation in a rotating on-call schedule are required.

Preferred Skills/Experience of the Developer III Mainframe:

Experience within healthcare payer environments is highly desirable, including claims adjudication, eligibility, benefits, pricing, provider, pharmacy, and healthcare claims processing systems. Additional preferred technologies include IMS, IBM MQ/MQ Series, VS Code, GitHub, GitHub Copilot, Zowe, Node.js, Git-based source control, and AI-assisted development tools.

Responsibilities of the Developer III Mainframe:
  • Analyze business requirements, determine technical approaches, and design application solutions that meet business needs.
  • Develop, modify, test, and maintain COBOL batch and online programs supporting critical enterprise applications.
  • Create and maintain JCL, including batch processing, scheduling, job recovery, and restart procedures.
  • Develop and optimize DB2 SQL, perform data analysis, and address database or application performance issues.
  • Develop and support CICS transactions while diagnosing and resolving complex production problems.
  • Support application enhancements, implementations, deployments, business initiatives, and the rotating on-call schedule.

Work Location: Columbia, SC - Hybrid/partial onsite. Standard hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Eastern Time, with onsite work required Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday plus additional onsite time as needed.
